Which is a trade any NFL team could have made.

Much like Cam Newton somehow sitting there into late summer when there are a few teams giving up on QBs already who might have wanted a good veteran option for cheap...or ironically, what the Titans did in trading for Tannehill and ultimately bailing on Mariota

Tannehill was a contingency plan for Marcus Mariota, who was in his fifth year, not on his 11th game.

They didn’t have to, they could’ve just built the team so they didn’t have to worry about having another Daniel Jones situation.

Oh, Im in complete agreement with you on these teams bailing way too early. I mean, Haskins is trash, but you cant tell me anyone but Alex Smith is the right move there, and even thats a "we can maybe win the division at 7-9" kind of move.

Im more thinking about the Bears (no 5th year for Trubisky, and Cam is 1/10th the price of Foles + the draft pick)...hell the 49ers whose QB gets injured every 4th game...but the Colts is the most fascinating (handing Rivers 5x what Cam cost plus Cam might have 5 years left in him while Rivers is DONE)

    The rivalry is back on

I’m cool with what the Colts did for 2 reasons.

    1) The main thing Rivers has that no one else did was a knowledge of the system since he’s worked with Reich and Sirianni. In a virtual offseason, that’s huge. Foles would have been the other option having worked with Reich, but that one required an inter-division trade and draft pick swap (and Rivers is better anyways).

    2) This staff all went through super talented QB Andrew Luck retiring 2 weeks before the season started due to chronic injuries. The context with Cam was that you couldn’t even work him out or perform a physical during the offseason, and that he was coming off major injuries and has similarly been beat up over the years. 4 weeks in, it looks like Cam is back, but I certainly can’t blame them for not blindly hoping he’s ok and saying that Brissett is fine as the fallback plan otherwise. The negative case there probably puts them all on the hot seat (if not fired, depending on how bad it is).

The amount also doesn’t bother me since the Colts have cap to spend. Newton’s number being so low bothers me a lot more than Rivers’ number being so high.

Daniel Jones / Haskins are both awful picks and should be replaced by a QB allowed to sit for the year. Or if you wanna grab an elite OL prospect and then a QB in the 2nd as a contingency plan, by all means.

I dont see the point in reaching to replace a reach. Definitely go with the contingency plan option.

Well it's not like they'd be reaching on Lawrence first overall.

    The rivalry is back on

Over the past couple years, I’ve shifted my opinion on drafting QBs a bit. The scenario where good rookie QB magically fixes a bad team within his rookie deal seems few and far between and most of the worst teams in the NFL are those who picked QBs early and threw them to the wolves.

I used to be very strongly in favor of grabbing the QB when you’re picking that high if you potentially have the need and the value is right, but I’ve shifted more to thinking drafting a QB and getting the coveted value of the rookie deal QB only works well if you have a strong supporting cast.

The exception for me is probably when a team is picking #1 overall and someone with a ceiling of being that guy to turn around a franchise on his own is sitting there (Lawrence, Burrow, etc), but for the teams in the Giants/Jets/Washington/Jags group that don’t get the #1 pick, I’d be very wary of grabbing a QB in the top 10 because I don’t they can support that development yet.

#1 overall, Denver, and Carolina are my favorite landing spots for the big 3 in this class and I think they could all be successful if that happens. Unless one of these good teams with short term QB solutions makes a big move this draft (Saints, Pats, Colts, Bucs, Bears, etc)

Yesterday, Adam Gase said he made tweaks in practice that were "not recommended by sports science" and now a player has presumably tested positive for COVID-19.

You can't make this stuff up...

how do you 'presumably' test positive for COVID lol

    you did or you didn't

There have been a number of false positives. Highly unlikely that's the case here, but it can happen.

Didnt the Saints player have a false positive? There was atleast one recently

I think the NFL is using the PCR tests, so they’re like 95% accurate. And obviously the one week was a big lab fuckup where like 10 people had false positives

I'm just ready to see what happens to the Titans

They are the only team to allow an outbreak so far through carelessness/recklessness
