I'm expecting most things rescheduled from January through March of next year to almost definitely be cancelled or rescheduled again.

Kind of a bummer, but that's the reality. I'm still feeling cautiously optimistic that we'll get a sense of when things might actually feel normal again/when a vaccine will start rolling out to the general population by end of year... But who knows...

I can't imagine a 'normal' concert happening until at least the fall of 2021. Nothing is going to magically change until a vaccine is finalized and there is enough to distribute...and even then, getting half the country to even take the vaccine will be a battle.

Getting the whole country to take the vaccine will be a battle. Half? Not so much.

I'm sure there'll be a numbers crunch as to how/when this will all be happening once we know one of these vaccines will actually work, how we'll deal with people who don't want or can't take the vaccine, etc. But based on what I've read, late spring/early summer isn't out of the question for things to be on their way to a post-COVID "normal" or whatever you want to call it. Like I said -- I'm cautiously optimistic.

But I also don't think you can talk about this from the perspective of the "country" because most of the rules/regulations around all of this are state-based. And I don't see State X not opening things up in terms of live performances if they're able to get a decent number of people vaccinated and start to see a steady decline in cases (with the caveat that to attend you have to show proof of vaccination)... Just because State Y isn't doing as well.

It'll be interesting to see how it all plays out. I'm just hoping for the best.

  8. Yeah, I'm expecting 2021 to look a lot like 2020 in terms of where the entertainment industry is at. And if we have the same president in 2021, then we can probably expect everything to be exactly the same next year as it is now...

  11. Honestly I don't know if I could go to one of those Drive Through concerts. I couldn't imagine shelling out 40 bucks to watch someone from the other side of the parking lot.

I'm doing that Beartooth show in Wisconsin next Friday and I'm super excited.

The first live band I've seen in seven months. A band I'm driving seven hours to see, but passed on driving one hour to see back in January.

  14. Nothing sounds less fun to me than going to a concert to sit in my car, or being fenced off in a little square, or paying to watch an online stream... Uggggh. I really hope something works out in 2021 where shows can start to be normal again...

I saw Hannibal Burress last week at a drive in and I don't think I would want to do a drive in again haha

Andrew McMahon is probably a perfect drive in show though

Went to a Caamp Drive-In show on Friday. It was a blast. Had so much fun. Brought a lot of beer, sat on the roof of my friend's Jeep. Felt like a person again.

  18. Love Hannibal. I'd be more down for a standup show, cause the jokes are the jokes (I listen to most of my stand up without really watching the screen)

God, I really want to do Knuckle Puck.

Also, I have a feeling we're going to have a lot more drive-in entertainment options in 2021 than 2020. I think event organizers will use the winter to mobilize and get creative.

Drive-in shows are just too expensive and unfeasible to anyone who does not own a car. $150-$300+ for tickets in the middle of a pandemic is super shitty and just a cash grab.

Some of these artists have had a year's worth of revenue ripped away. How exactly is it a cash grab? Seems like they're just making the most of a shitty situation...

I'm sure the overhead on those shows is also significantly higher compared to standard shows given security measures. You're also going to be able to have fewer people in attendance given the distancing rules (which means higher ticket prices).

It sucks that it's not more affordable and that it is a bit exclusionary (i.e., you need to have a car to attend) but how is that inherently "shitty"? Kinda just feels like the circumstances that they're operating in.

I just view it as the industry (promoters, artists, venues) doing whatever they can to get by and recoup some of what they haven't been able to make this year.

Yeah, they've gotta make their overhead. I'm definitely hoping over the winter organizers can find ways to make drive-in shows more accessible though.

I don’t think it’s a cash grab at all. It’s significantly higher than standard ticket prices, yes, but fair all things considered.
