Also, I’m not agreeing on the whole 1975 vs Beatles thing, but I will say that I think many people in their teens or twenties will obviously think this.

All of the music that The Beatles put out is almost 60 years old, so it doesn’t surprise me that it doesn’t really strike a chord with younger people.

Sure, most of them can probably appreciate The Beatles, but The 1975 are a very modern band, perfect for exactly this moment in time, and so the vast, vast majority of young people probably do genuinely prefer The 1975.

In speaking with my students who are into music, they still respect The Beatles. I don't think any of them would say that the 1975 is better

Respecting a band really isn’t the same thing.

Although I guess preferring a band and thinking they are objectively better is a different thing as well...

I'd rather listen to hundreds of bands before I listen to the Beatles (although I have been listening to their albums this week), that doesn't mean I automatically think they're a "better" band.

yeah that’s what I kind of was saying in my post, that they might listen to The 1975 more, but they realise the Beatles are a better and more influential band.

    Here's a bad opinion:
I'm listening to Abbey Road and I like Octopus's Garden better than I Want You

the funniest thing about that Yesterday movie is the thought that the Beatles' songs would be huge if they were released now.

Dude I know this sounds wild but Abbey Road just recently clicked for me and I think I agree with this! I LOVE that song, haha.

I've always been a pretty casual fan of The Beatles..At least since I was college aged.. The only album I was ever able to fully get into is Revolver but that's been changing over the last month. Up until this past week (New Fleet Foxes/Sufjan/SE/etc..) I was listening to Abbey Road multiple times a day.

I like a lot of the Beatles' "bad" songs. "Ob La Di" and "Octopus' Garden" are fun, I guess.

I said this somewhere else this week, but Revolver clicked with me for like a week in college but since then I've been mostly apathetic towards them. Obviously some truly brilliant tracks on each record they have, and nothing is really like..."bad", but I don't give a shit about Sun King or Mr. Mustard so I can't call this a perfect album. Polythene Pam is dope, though

    what a waste of wood

Saying an album as old as Abbey Road just clicked with me sounds weird but I grew up in a Southern Baptist Christian household and my dad always told me pretty much all counter-culture music from the 60s was bad.. Something I just took his word for, for way too long. Bob Dylan is my personal music hero but I didn't even start really getting into his stuff until I was like 18 for this reason.

Yeah there's still not an album of theirs I love all the way through.. "Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight" is just fucking remarkable though.

If you said The 1975 are better than The Cure or Talking Heads or honestly even like Zeppelin or some other oldhead band, I might have gotten riled up, but the Beatles are just there for me. I don't have the energy or passion in me to fight for them.

    hmmm

The 1975's production is better than their songwriting.

Elanor Rigby really IS a perfect song. It's actually insane it came out in 1966.

their production is imo some of the best of this time so I honestly can’t be mad at this take.

the thing that matters to me most with music is the emotional connection that I forge with a given artist or album or song or whatever. I can appreciate “vision” and innovation and all that shit but for me to care you have to hit me in the heart or soul as much as or more than you hit me in the brains. I don’t care what’s “better” I think that’s honestly a futile debate. and the unfortunate thing with the Beatles is borderline all of their music is a more cerebral than emotional experience for me and I don’t really see that ever changing.
