  1. The Beatles has had more influence on music and pop culture than any other band ever has or will. I don't think they're a band you need to love NOW, but there's no denying their impact and influence on all the bands that inspired all the bands and artists we still fall in love with.

Is anyone denying the influence of the Beatles?

  3. I hope not. I'm pretty much just saying I don't think it's edgy to say you don't like The Beatles or that there's a band you like more than The Beatles, as long as you can agree that their cultural impact influenced everyone after that.

These conversations are pointless because how could anyone possibly confirm and/or quantify influence? Lennon could have heard a jingle on a cartoon commercial that triggered an idea to write a song, so that’s the most influential commercial jingle of all time?

    Who cares?

I unironically believe Toto IV is better than any NIN album. But NIN has the better overall discography.

Well this is dumb. What does age have to do with how passionate you feel about music? The Spinners are old as shit, my friend.

It's not about age...it's about the Beatles. At this point, people "get it" or they don't. Any controversial opinion about the Beatles is most likely coming from someone trying to stir shit, or someone who hasn't given them a chance beyond the most well-known singles. I'll defend (actually I've never really had to defend them) The Spinners to the death because that's more about people not listening/knowing who they are.

On either side, mustering up a ton of energy to argue about the Beatles being good/influential...pick another argument!

I read his comment more as, the discourse around the Beatles has been absolutely exhausted. I love some of their records too, but what else is there to say that hasn't already been said?

I actually have a hard time imagining someone actually bothering to go back to listen to The Spinners and shitting on them, come to think of it.

It stinks because I recognize the brilliance. I went through a week long Beatles phase in college and felt like I "got it"...and then I got distracted by something else and moved on and haven't really felt strongly about them since.

the cult of the beatles is more bothersome than anything having to do with their music, which is inoffensive at worst

I like "Ob La Di, Ob La Da". I like more or less every Beatles song. Even doofy shit like "Piggies" I like how perverse it was to include it on an album and the arrangement/production.

I like basically every Beatles single. Never listened to an album all the way through though. Was browsing their wikipedia and was shocked to see they were only a band for 10 years. To release such a wide variety of influential music in a short span of time is incredible.

Helter Skelter ending and then bringing it back in to jam is hard as fuck.

The Beatles deserve all the praise and recognition they get, I'm not even going to engage in this (again)

Hard for me to think of a prettier melody than “Here, There, and Everywhere”...I don’t venerate them, but the Beatles put out some incredible music. Maybe a controversial opinion, but I even love “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer”
