This past decade has produced very few albums that could be considered classics. That are nearly universally praised by nearly all hip hop fans. TPAB is genuinely the only one I can think of off the top of my head.

And that Kanye album with the red cover. That was in the 2010s, right?

Piñata maybe? A little too early to say Bandana, but they’re both albums that, whilst not blowing up commercially like TPAB or MBDTF, have garnered a lot of respect from most hip hop fans. But does a classic need commercial visibility to be an actual classic?

No, but I think it needs it to be a hip hop album that cracks the top 20 “best albums ever”, even if the rock albums don’t

    Big Fish Theory
(Not really rap but) Awaken My Love

This says more about teenagers than anything else, but idk if any of my current sophomores could name who made those albums outside of Thug and Chance, haha

Thug might honestly be a stretch and Chance isn’t cool anymore. What is popular still confuses me. Most kids are super into Lil Durk

This is probably the boomer in me speaking, but most of the popular rappers right now like Lil Baby, Gunna, NBA YoungBoy, etc. do absolutely nothing for me. But I’m also a year away from turning 30 so I’m probably not the target audience anyway

IMO people don’t really settle into their music tastes until their 20s. When I was a teen, I listened to a lot of good stuff but a hell of a lot of trash. I was still learning.

I'm also a year from 30 and feel like I know less and less about who's popular. Nothing I actively hate, just can't connect with in the same way. Also its been harder for me to get really invested in new music of any genre. Getting old sucks.

Overall I am still able to find a ton of new music to connect to, but I find it much tougher in hip-hop and anything rock-related to sift through the stuff I don't like as much. It's out there, but it takes more work these days.

Just piping in to say I still think the new Amine album is great. Disagree about it being middle of the road. There are some fantastic production choices, and his flow is so good through out. He’s always switching it up.

Can't believe I scrolled through pages of y'all talking about the best 2010s rappers and no one mentions Rapsody. This is why we don't need to bring twitter convos here. The premise of Lupe vs Kendrick just continues the same hip hop discourse Twitter has been having for years and its exclusionary nature compounded by the subjectivity of the topic makes it such a pointless discussion to have. Plus, hip hip discourse has been giving Kendrick his flowers for years and it's honestly way past time to shift the focus. He hasn't put out a groundbreaking album in five years imo and I feel deeply that the same people who keep raving about him are also J Cole fans.

Whatever I guess all that is to say

Vince Staples > Meg > Tyler > Flo Milli, and y'all can argue wit yo mama.

But...we weren’t talking about the best 2010 rappers? The lists were for the most popular. And I’ve only really stuck up for TPAB. I called Damn pretentious
