    hmmm

I drew a comparison because I was making a point about why I can still listen to that album and I do think there is a difference between those two things. That doesn't mean the former isn't misogynous - because it is at points - but there is a difference of intent.

Some might take the difference of intent further and use it to say that EYEWTKAS isn't misogynous because of the 'place' it comes from. I understand that argument but I disagree with it because I don't think the place it comes from stops it being misogyny.

I'm not responding anymore. If you don't get it by now, I can't help you.

But there's not a difference? Both are misogynistic? In terms of context, sure, but you made up the second scenario so I don't really know what you're going for there. What was the intent of lyrics about giving a woman a black eye? It comes from a place of hatred and evokes violence towards women. Stop using this "Some might say" rhetorical bullshit, specifically when you're disagreeing with it. What's the point of you saying it?

Yeah that album exudes an incredibly potent toxic aggression towards women. There's really no excusing those lyrics. Defending it so intentsely comes across very poorly and toxic as well

  4. From 1968 to 1970 the only guitarist better than Jerry Garcia was Jimi

Bob Weir is the best rock n roll rhythm guitarist of all time

Phil Lesh is among the best rock n roll bass players of all time

Robert Hunter is unrivaled in the arena of Americana song and lyric writing

1968-1971 is the best GD era, followed by 1973-74

    Billy Kreutzmann is criminally underrated

    Keith>Brent

    Pigpen>Keith

Such a small time frame but there were like a lot of critically acclaimed guitar players around that time.

Just read a bunch of reviews for the glassjaw record. Pretty much all of them minimize and make excuses for the misogyny on that record. Kind of interesting how musicians perceived to be influential get a free pass for that kind of stuff because I bet it'd be different if that album wasn't so acclaimed.

I almost like them but then the songs get too self indulgent and over the top before I'm even halfway done with the record. It would be cooler without the gimmick of having to make everything erratic in some way

That album at least sounds like a watered down Circle Takes The Square. Between real raw punk screamo stuff and like, Alexisonfire. I don't like screamo vocal style at all to begin with... but in terms of authenticity and strength of influence I'd say they were one of those bands that took basement punk influences and made them a little more accessible for "the scene", kinda like Thursday.

Check out the album worship and tribute it's extremely unique and they took a huge step up and like I said earlier many of the lyrics on that album find Daryl reflecting on his former self which I respect a lot given the nature of their debut
