Hearing on the news that a vaccine might be ready by the end of the year. If that happens, can we expect the Feb.-March tours to go through?

I wouldn’t bet on it, even if the vaccine is ready and that’s a big if, it will take months. I still think summer 2021 is the earliest target date.

Well, any vaccine pushed out before the election may just be done for Trump to help his chances in winning, so I and many others wouldn't get the vaccine then if that is the case. Secondly, it takes time for a vaccine to roll out and be administered, it's not just "here's the vaccine everything is back to normal". There will be an order to who gets it first (doctors, first responders, firefighters, essential workers, etc.) and then others will get it after. Then we need to get to a point where thousands of people are not dying a day and many more are not contracting the virus daily.

Summer 2021 at the earliest IF a vaccine is available by the end of the year, and that is a massive if.

Are you saying that if a vaccine is out and working but is pushed by Trump, you will not take it?

Trump has said he wants a vaccine before election day so I will be wary of any vaccine that comes before then because it very well could be not fully tested/reliable and it could be pushed out faster to help his election chances. I would rather wait until a vaccine that is confirmed to be reliable comes out.

I also read an article that a vaccine might not be readily available and able to be mass distributed until 2024 so...yeah.

Just because we "have" a vaccine within the stated timeframes does not mean that we will all have access to it. That's going to take a significant amount of time despite whatever plans are in place. And I would assume there's going to be a staggered roll-out with healthcare workers, certain vulnerable populations receiving it first, etc.

I'm not even going to begin speculating on what the roll-out plan for a vaccine like this would even look like. But saying that we'll have one that works, or even one that is approved... Is very different than the appropriate number of people being able to actually get vaccinated. TBH, I think it's playing with fire for any politician to make statements about the timing of it all even using vague terminology and qualifiers like "might" or "maybe."

Summer 2021 is the earliest that's likely to happen from everything that I've read. But it could also be significantly later depending on a multitude of factors.

Yeah a vaccine suddenly showing up before the election is sus

There’s not going to be a vaccine pushed out before the election, that’s a mere 6 weeks away. In October, the major players like Pfizer will start to know if their trials and subsequent vaccine will be effective. Early 2021, it will start to be distributed to health care workers and hopefully at-risk people.

Unfortunately, the music industry will not be able to wait until the vaccine is mass distributed to the entire population. Without government funding venues will be forced to re-open and hold “safe” events just to survive. There’s venues here using open air stages and have been having shows since July. Butt rock bands are back playing dive bars. The less socially conscious bands will be back on tour next year.

If i recall correctly, Pfizer said that they would know by the end of October if the vaccine works and if it does then distribution will start before the end of the year.

    Maybe so, maybe not.

I went to a socially distanced Goose (jam band from Connecticut) show last at South Farms in Morris, CT.

I wrote a long review of the music for some friends but I'll just paste the experience portion + video here so people can see.

EXPERIENCE: Really well-done stuff by South Farms—which, through no fault of their own, is in the middle of nowhere Connecticut, just below Massachusetts. We almost ran out of (car) gas post-show (!!!) because we went to 5 different gas stations that were all somehow closed. Despite a single lane dirt road in and out, parking and getting out was a seamless cinch. Yesterday AM I was sent a health questionnaire for Jackie and I, which they scan upon entry in addition to your tickets. Probably covers them from liability somehow and also collects information for potential contact tracing. Walking in you're on top overlooking the stage and beautiful nature in the back, the entire concert field is sloped downward with white squares drawn on the ground (A1, etc). Jackie and I were in D11, right in front of the soundboard. Masks on whenever you're not in your square, but you can set up beach chairs, blankets, etc. in your square and make it your own. The sound was really great (and loud) wherever we walked in the venue. Weather was great at around 65 degrees, with dew making my beach chair arms and the grass a little wet. Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, nicely enforcing distancing on food lines, directing people to empty/distanced drink vendors, and making sure there weren't extra people chilling in squares. Copious amounts of hand washing and sanitizing stations throughout the venue. Videos below that gives an idea of how it was set up. I'd estimate 300-500 people, maybe?

No worries! I drove from Brooklyn and it was a little over 4 hours of driving both ways. Little tired for work today, but well worth it IMO.
