Also speed controls on loopers literally just half the speed. You don’t have anywhere near the same amount of control. The same with the reverse. We’ve had this conversation before lol

Right but again - look at the level of control with CBA pedals. If someone is watching videos of a MOOD pedal (which is an instrument in itself) then they’re almost definitely hearing things you probably can’t replicate with just a looper and a reverb pedal. I’m sure you can get close to some of it, absolutely. It has a hell of a lot more on offer than just looping with reverse and reverb though. And I’m saying that as someone who has had a looper (with reverse and half speed) and a reverb on my board for longer than I can remember. Reverb was the first effect I bought into, and a looper shortly after.

If they don’t have a looper though, 100% they should not be using the MOOD as their primary looper. It’s there for weird micro loops and sporadic inspirational oddities, not precisely timed loops you can overdub endlessly. It’s a creative toolbox.

my thoughts on it are just from what I can tell from reading the user manual and watching videos - it’s primary use seems more akin to sampling and sample manipulation. agreed on the last part too.

i generally do not get the practical usage of the majority of the chase bliss, and old blood noise for that matter, pedals on the market. i guess it makes sense that i hear about them most from hobbyists and youtubers, as opposed to touring musicians having them on their board.

Presets and midi negate those concerns haha. For small time bands sure - overkill and impractical if you’re not using midi I guess. For big touring musicians they’d very easily fit into your rig no problem and give you access to literally 100s of presets at your shoes.

Old Blood Noise aren’t exactly complicated though haha.

it isn’t a matter of complication lol. it’s a matter of usefulness and design. the dweller and the reflector aren’t necessarily the most useful phasers (calling the dweller this isn’t exactly accurate, which kind of makes my point for me) or choruses on the market. they’re extremely niche products for people trying to get experimental sounds which is why the majority of actual bands don’t use them

i have not seen the mood on any boards, regardless of size, with the exception of post rock guitarists

The Reflector I actually owned and it can absolutely do standard chorus tones haha. But yeah I didn’t need any of the weird extra modes so I see your point - I swapped it out within a few months. And nigh on all of Reddit owns a MOOD but obviously I can’t comment for actual touring musicians haha. 100% agree with the MOOD specifically regarding niche sounds. The rest of their pedals though absolutely have standard applications anybody can use. They’re just capable of a lot more.

that’s kind of the point i was making haha. they’re fun pedals for people on reddit and youtube to get lost in. i just feel like there are other builders out there, boutique and non, that make much more usable and better versions of the same effects, albeit with less tweak-ability

Idk about ‘better’ - obviously the quality of them and the sounds they’re capable of making make them stand out above a lot of the competition. But for your basic meat and potatoes quick setup kinda deal they’re far less accessible yeah.

i mean, i definitely meant better haha. i don’t think the wombtone is the best phaser on the market. the lillian and grand arbiter are much better phasers, with a fraction of the controls to get lost up your ass in

Can’t comment on the wombtone but that’s definitely subjective haaa

I mean the other thing with Chase Bliss is their parameters or parameter labels are esoteric. It can take turning 3 knobs (and jumper switches) to achieve what it would take another pedal to do having turned 1 or 2 knobs. Plenty of that appeal is legitimate - people love perceived randomization. but other times it works against you creatively if the interface is is not navigable. MOOD, Blooper, and Automatone seem like the best CB pedals. I do feel that I can comp any single one of those pedals sounds with my existing moderate pedal board.

Some of these pedals are definitely way more useful in the studio than in a live setting

The Automatone and the upcoming reverb in the same format are 100% studio gear aha. Daft if you ask me but it obviously isn’t relevant to me.

man. eventide just announced the blackhole preset as a stand alone pedal, and I think that takes the edge for me, but this rules

the blackhole plugin goes on sale for $29 pretty often - and it really is one of the best reverb algos ever. but yeah you can even get it on iOS. I’ve been thinking about trying to use Ableton and plugins with my rig.

i generally don't love most plugins of pedals - the darkglass one for bass is especially bad. but maybe I'll try it. I'm in the market for a reverb on my board anyways

I don't think I've tried Blackhole, but I've had good luck with other Eventide plugins lately. They do a 30 day free trial as well if you wanna check it out.

it was on plug-in format before it was ever in a pedal. I mean it all should be the same - these pedals are basically little computers now as were/is rack gear. I do wonder how it’d run on something like an iPad though. eventide shit is top quality shit for sure.

wasn't it a rack unit and then on their space reverb pedal first haha? good to know though
