Sometimes I think bands don't play songs off a certain album because it was an unhappy time for the band, like Neighborhoods with Blink and New Again with Taking Back Sunday....

...I don't know if what I just said makes any sense....

nah that makes total sense to me and i think it could very well be part of the reasons you never hear NA songs anymore.

I love jamming the Live from Bamboozle 2009 release while driving. I’m sure there’s quite a bit of studio magic going on, but the songs sound great and it’s nice to hear Fazzi so clearly. Also great to hear HQ live versions of the New Again material and a deep cut like You Know How I Do. That and Oresanz are strong showcases for the Fazzi era. Will always wish we heard his voice more on NA.

that's fair. i really enjoy when adam sings high and raspy so that cut me up gently part right before the chorus is satisfying to me. also the instrumental is fantastic.

you nailed the description for even if it kills me. i didn't like the album at first because i thought most of the songs started off weird, unattractive and the lyrics weren't as clever but years later i listened again and got the anniversary edition on vinyl and it's so beautiful.

Fazzi is a great singer - it’s a real shame New Again’s Producer David Kahne supposedly reduced Fazzi’s vocals on the record to back up harmonies.

If I’m not mistaken - this info was from the man Fazzi himself. I remember reading this in some interview post-TBS and he said the Producer didn’t like him so he pushed for it to be solely Adam. Bad move is bad.

It really bothers me that on some songs, Sink Into Me immediately comes to mind, the backing vocals are done by Adam.
I think I remember reading somewhere that the producer thought his voice was too clean and polished.

while Fred is my overall favorite guitarist they’ve had in terms of fit and just overall songwriting, Fazzi has the most interesting and “geared to my tastes” guitar work of all of them across his discography and NA is no exception. I also really love the Happy Body Slow Brain stuff and have meant to spend more time with the Rare Futures stuff, and then there’s of course Facing New York and A Great Big Pile of Leaves and others. he’s definitely had the best career outside of TBS of all the current/former members imo.

Yeah I think that happened with a lot of "AP"-type bands. People had very narrow expectations of what they wanted and were quick to dismiss. They eventually came around, but the damage to the bands' career momentum was done. At least the albums live forever.

This seems like a nice way of saying they didn't want to make it obvious that the lead singer was worse than the backup singer lol

Anyone know where the hell I can find their performance of Where My Mouth Is that was on Alexa Chung's old MTV show? Loved that one and it's not on YouTube

    EDIT

Found it in horrible quality here if anyone is interested:

I believe I remember that too. I think the Live from Orensanz album shows that the producer was dead wrong. They compliment each other IMO but yeah.. Fazzi is a better singer than Adam lol

I grew up in the Bay Area/East Bay (I moved back a few years ago too) and Facing New York is my jam!! I'm very mad at myself for missing their reunion show last year at Bottom of the Hill. I live walking distance to that venue too and I can't remember why I missed it. Anyways, Fazzi pushed this band to write cooler stuff if you ask me. The band has regressed quite a bit for the most part since Faz and Rubano got the boot.

haha oh man - terrible quality but glad I got to see it! Fazzi even sounds better doing more distinguishable backups there! ugh

Wow I never knew they did this song live, let alone for a tv performance. It sounds good!

yeah Fazzi sounds really goddamn good on Orensanz, and he plays off Adam beautifully

can't say I'm surprised if David Kahne cut his vocals off NA, from stuff Linkin Park has said that guy sounds like a nightmare to work with

I haven’t listened in a while but I seem to remember him sounding rough at the beginning and then better as it goes on

They definitely sweetened Adam’s vocals on that live album but he sounds great.

he's got a great mix of grit and cleanness on that album imo. if Adam sounded perfect I'd be a lot less interested lmao

(shame neither of them go for those wails at the end of "One-Eighty by Summer" tho, feels wrong without them)

One Eighty or My Blue Heaven are my favourites.

I remember 180 really opened my eyes that songs didn't have to go verse/chorus/verse/chorus/bridge/chorus and you can do whatever the fuck you want and just have totally independent parts in a row haha.

“A Decade Under The Influence” is probably my favourite TBS song if I had to choose, but it’s a tough call.

“Existentialism on Prom Night” is easily my favourite thing anyone from this band has written, though.

honestly don't know what my favourite is, "My Blue Heaven" if I was forced to pick

every album they've made has at least a few contenders for my favourite TBS song, which is dope
