No but it is my opinion, coloring book and our color green are the best material even if worship is my favorite for nostalgic reasons

    hmmm

The EPs are really good but they're nowhere near the albums.

I think Coloring Book is a million times better than their debut imo. I love Coloring Book, my second fav behind W&T

As someone who fell for that album the hardest when I was really into the band... It's nearly impossible for me to listen to anymore based on the lyrics. I think a lot of people feel similarly and also a lot of them just don't care for the musical approach on it either.

I'd be interested to hear both EPs together in an album sequencing.

EYEWTKAS is shitty lyrically, I like "Ry Ry's Song" and "Siberian Kiss" though

I sometimes wonder if I'm the only Fugazi fan who thinks The Argument is their best record. Usually I'm met with that natural punk band backlash, "their early stuff was their best". 13 songs is good but I just seriously think the Argument is a transcendently well written album from top to bottom, every instrument is innovative, every song is vastly different from each other, etc.

DT has some really great solos at least on Metropolis Pt 2 and Six Degrees of Inner turbulence.

I'm a huge Steady Diet of Nothing fan, never heard The Argument but I've seen others say it's their best

I used to own albums of theirs, but I just can't do them anymore. In my estimation, there just isn't even close to enough songwriting to support all the instrumental jerking off.

I feel ya there, I used to be really into Dream Theater circa 2011-2013, but I think those two records are the most substantive and still hold up quite well even if I'm not nearly as into them as I used to be.

I get why people would be put off by it but honestly... "the debut doesn't exist"... fuck off.

The title track is one of the most intense things I've ever heard in my life.

I'm with ya on this one. Love all of their records, but I'd say The Argument is their most fully realised work.

Getting back to that Chance conversation, Coloring Book is good, but nowhere close to Acid Rap for me. Don't have much of an urge to listen to more than 4 or 5 tracks from CB whereas Acid Rap is still an engaging listen to this day.

It was part of a winnowing of what prog I like and what I don't because I had kind of thrown the baby out with the bath water on the whole genre, and then realized, no, I actually really like Yes and Jethro Tull and others

The Argument and Repeater are both better than 13 songs. Entire Fugazi discography is super solid though.

Hurray for Metropolis Pt 2 love! That's probably the only record of theirs I'll go back and relisten to in full.

This is soooooo true with DT to me. Not every prog band or prog as a genre, but DT definitely.

I mean, I think it's totally fair for people to feel that way about it. Those lyrics are pretty reprehensible and I think whenever that album comes up it eventually veers into some people being apologists towards the lyrical content, and people are tired of seeing sexism and misogyny being excused in the many forms it takes... that album included. While I don't want to speak for Jake, I took his comment of "the debut doesn't exist" as a way of trying not to have yet another conversation about something that has already been exhausted for most people.

As far as the title-track is concerned, that's definitely the best track on there imo, and one of the few that doesn't really feature the misogynistic lyricism found on most of the record (at least operating from memory it doesn't, it's been a long time since I've listened to it).
