I mean personally care about it, sure, but I wouldn't expect a big movement of Americans in the streets against Joe Biden next April to stop american government foreign aid to Israel until they stop settlements and etc. Definitely not to the levels you would need to see to force change, IMO. Hopefully I'm wrong but I doubt it.

Sadly, probably the more realistic hope is you force enough pressure on spending priorities overall, combined with the general attitude of "we spend too much on defense", which is about as far as most normie Americans seem to think about foreign policy, and that ends up lowering our defense budget somewhat and results in stuff like Israel getting less money.

I don’t know how pretty much every dem politician can support black lives matter for the reasons they claim they do and then turn around and ignore Palestinian voices and fully support Israel. It’s hypocrisy but more importantly it’s racist, immoral, and it’s contributing to brutal oppression. The party that should be listening needs to listen and these movements need to include this kind of solidarity. It can’t be separated into domestic and foreign policy when Israel has a lobby in our congress and we’re shelling out money and military support to them.

Short answer: money and fear of looking anti-Semitic (which is also money because Jewish donors are likely a bigger share than Muslim donors)

I get where you’re coming from with this idea of being practical and having realistic expectations, but to me it’s an unacceptable position for us to have.

If your argument for why we must vote for Biden/Harris, even if i think they suck, is that it’s the option we have to improve things and not doing so is tacit permission for the Trump admin, how can you not apply the same stance towards inaction around Israel/Palestine or US imperialism? Aren’t you similarly just permitting death and human misery? I don’t care if we can’t move policy even an inch, we have to be rabid and persistent and organized in our opposition to our current policies because people are suffering. And i don’t think you can be committed to justice selectively.

If anything I really doubt Jewish donors make up as much of the pro-Israel donor psychopaths as Evangelicals do

  10. No reason to be concerned with polls and approval ratings for riots. Not really the point

I'm not saying not to be rabid and persistent, rather just kinda being a debbie downer and saying I wouldn't expect the energy expelled on it to produce the desired results. Which might not be a big deal to some people but, I think we do need to acknowledge that there are some people out there who mentally and emotionally might not be able to stay engaged as long or as thoroughly if they can't focus on one specific thing or never get any type of victory out of it.

imo the better way to deal with people who hate the riots and property destruction is not to try to justify it but to get them to ask "how do we stop this from happening every couple months/years?" And then try to lead them to the answer of "wide-scale political change" -- that shows of force are only ever going to exacerbate the problem, so even if it works when the cops or national guard come in and shut everything down, it is only going to inevitably pop up again unless the causes of the riots are properly addressed

^ that’s what organizing conversations actually are. You put it to the person you’re talking to to come up with answers about what they think needs to be done, what’s preventing that from happening, and how to get there.

You could say this about the European guy who just came in here saying he doesn’t get why people can’t do everything in peace and just arrest the bad cops. It’s not an excuse to lack empathy.

Waking up to like three new pages I was really worried there had been more people murdered at protests or the hurricane was getting even worse kinda glad it was just an ALM clown exposing their ass

  23. I was assuming it would be a little while before we got photos and updates from the ground due to how many people evacuated. I could be wrong but it looks like the storm weakened once it made landfall? Scary pictures though.

Considering how much money and influence there is from advocates of countries like Israel and Saudi Arabia, I feel like you could very easily make the argument that it isn't simply a matter of foreign policy. It's not the same as advocating for awareness of some relatively minor foreign conflict that doesn't already have an explicit U.S. connection. It's a similar line of argument you can make about how much of our money goes towards arms dealers/manufacturers.
