are we still lucky to be here? Prestigious

Yeah. I really got nothing to say about this at this point either than Rest in Fucking Power, Riley. Power Trip won't be leaving my speakers for a while.

Fuck man, I am really bummed out by this. Thinking about it, Power Trip have been my most favorite band for a while now, and I like a lot of music. I was soooo looking forward to their next album

  3. 35 is far too young. Been reading plenty of stories about him today and he sounded like such a wonderful human being. What a loss, just devastating

Dude seemed like a genuinely great person and one of the most positive voices in the music scene in general, not just metal, so fucking sad

The timeline full of DFW metal/hardcore kids coming together to celebrate him is heartbreaking.

born and raised in Dallas and admittedly had no idea about Power Trip. But from all of the outpouring of memories and stuff about him from people I know, gonna give a listen today.

They were a true crossover act that had their foot in so many scenes and united so many genres. I truly hope this isn’t the end for them but if it is, the will be sadly missed.

Absolutely. Obviously there's been crossover acts for years, but I really feel like Power Trip brought a lot of die hard metal fans over to hardcore, a lot of hardcore kids over to metal. Particularly in the local scene, but really even globally.

On that note, this person needs to be crucified.

Recent acts that come to mind that are in the same wheelhouse could be Hatebreed and Body Count but I feel like Power Trip was on course to eclipse both of them.

Feel like Twitching Tongues sort of did the same, but not on the same scale and I love Power Trip’s music a lot more. This sucks.

jeremy from touché amore had a great post about how the metal scene can be unaccepting of hardcore kids starting metal bands but everyone loved riley so much it didn’t matter for PT

this feels like our generations cliff burton. hard to overestimate how much of a loss this is for the scene.

Really feels like everyone up here knew him and EVERYONE had good things to say about him all the time. They really really had a special impact on DFW that we probably won't ever see again. Very heartbroken for everyone in the city right now who loved and admired him.

I'm sure Denton is feeling it the heaviest right now. Seems like PT created the heavy music scene at UNT.

Hatebreed is a great comparison. I kind of think of them as a hardcore band that leans metal, and Power Trip as a metal band that leans hardcore, but that's kind of simplifying it. But I really can't think of two other bands to bring more fans from one genre over to the other.

I think Body Count definitely opened up some people to heavier music, who probably wouldn't have been exposed to it otherwise. They also helped open the door for people of color to be more welcomed to the genre, which is obviously still a battle.

i’m sure they probably aren’t thinking today about ways to continue but it helps they have someone capable of whipping ass within the band already
