yeah this is classic Killers down to the fact that I'm pretty sure they include the riff from No More I Love Yous in Fire And Bone

  3. he listed as a member in the liner notes but they don’t specify anything else from him on any of the tracks - has no writing credits on anything

  4. reading through all the notes it looks like he plays on zero tracks.

This is good. The lightning fields of love line makes me cringe a little but overall enjoying this album. I wish they released it a month ago though. It’s great for summer night drives.

Yeah, this is what I'd read elsewhere. They left the door open for him and Mark to participate and Mark did, but Dave didn't.

So I fell off The Killers pretty hard years ago for one reason or another. Recently I heard “Caution” on the radio and really liked it so I figured I’d check out the album when it dropped. I hadn’t heard any of the other songs released yet. Then I read through the thread in here to get an idea of the vibe around the album and read about The War On Drugs influences which absolutely piqued my interest because I’m a massive fan of that band.

Hit play on “My Own Soul’s Warning” and as soon as the song broke open my immediate reaction was “hahaha, oh my god.”

So yeah this is great and I’m really happy.

Blowback was pretty great live on Colbert.

All these songs will translate well live too. These guys can pull them off.

I just love the classic Killers synth on this thing. Can’t wait to drive with this album.

Yeah, I listened to this on my run today and was struck by how focused the synth is and integral it is to the overall melody. Makes me wonder if not having to accommodate a permanent band member (guitarist leaving) opened up some space for the synth to star a bit more.

I feel like I might have to put both Caution and Soul's Warning in my band top 5

"Caution" deserves just as much ubiquity and longevity as "When You Were Young". It's 2020, so that won't happen. But it deserves it.

if someone asks me what i’m doing for whatever reason, my new go to response is “i’m imploding the mirage”

I feel a little dumb saying this, but ever since the album was announced, I always thought "Imploding the Mirage" was referring to the Mirage hotel in Las Vegas. It didn't always make sense to me since The Mirage is still an active hotel, but hotels in Vegas that get demolished are typically imploded. But the title track does not really seem to be about that.

  16. But also never forget that a lot of Brandon Flowers’ lyrics are incredibly nonsensical haha

I mean he's definitely pulling from that, but yeah, I was also surprised to find it isn't directly referenced in the song.

This thing is crazy front loaded. I hope the latter half grows on me. No reason it shouldn't but the first 4 songs are insanely good.

I actually disagree that the album is insanely front-loaded. My first few full listens and I was struck by how strong the back half is and how well it holds up to the first half.

"Fire In Bone" is still my least favorite of the songs and it comes in the second half so I guess that right there differentiates it from the first half, which is 5 straight epic bangers, but I still love "Fire In Bone" and think it's a great song that plays perfectly in context of the album.

I really think the whole album is awesome and remarkably consistent. Plus, "Imploding The Mirage" is a great closer, which is something they sometimes stumble hard on and managed to avoid here which is good.

I love the last three songs tbh. Would put When the Dreams Run Dry at the end though

Can’t get behind the idea the record is front loaded. My God is one of my favorites so far and the other four are great as well. The entire album is loaded.

“Fire in Bone” and “When the Dreams Run Dry” are the two best songs here.
