i used to feel this way severely, maybe like for most of 2018 and some of 2019, it kind of felt like the game had just become for gym defending and raiding, and if you were in a rural area or didnt know a good raid train in your neighborhood, you were simply S out of L. i think they've made significant strides in making the game more playable for people in all areas, and making it easier to gain XP with more raids, events, friendship bonuses, etc.

It's far from a perfect game, and is mindnumbingly frustrating as hell at times hah, but i think it's come a long way. i didn't think lv.40 was ever even an attainable goal for me, and i'm 1/5 of the way through lv.39 already after turning over like a week or two ago.

I will say, the additions they made due to COVID have been great. If they ever walk back remote raiding i’ll lose it haha

I think remote raiding is here to stay. Its a new revenue stream for them, cant imagine they get rid of it.

    So assuming that this weekend...

Heatran is useful in a lot of raids at least with that Fire/Steel typing, so that's good.

Right now, I'm in the 2200-2300 range (rank 8) and I've been running this team in ultra league.

Dragonite - Dragon Breath and Dragon Claw/Hurricane
Swampert (Shadow) - Mud Shot and Hydro Cannon/Earthquake
Toxicroak (Best Buddy) - Counter and Sludge Bomb/Mud Bomb

I have been having a lot of success with it (usually going at least 3-2) and it's the most fun I've had in a while. Shadow Swampert is so good that if you have one shield and your opponent has none you can almost take out a Venusaur with Earthquake.

There's no way they roll it back. I was pretty close to being considered a FTP player (maybe drop 10 bucks every few months on some coins. Since remote raiding between my wife and I we have probably dropped over 100 bucks.

The best tips I have (coming from a pretty mediocre player who has never reached rank 10)

    - Stick with the same team for a while. I went 0-5 with the team the first time I played it. The reason is that eventually you learn your team and how it plays against everything that you can win even with a terrible lead matchup.

    - Learn when to shield and when not to shield. This was one of the hardest things for me.

    - Try to learn to shield bait. It's really tempting to just fire off the faster of the two charged moves, but man if you can bait out a shield and then quickly power back up to the better move you will get so much better.

    - As soon as someone you are coming up against switches, pull up your switch screen just in case they are bringing in a super hard counter. The extra second it takes you to pull it up AFTER you've seen what their pokemon is really valuable. If you have a swampert and they pull in a venusaur those extra hits they get can be the difference between a win or loss later on.

    - This one sounds weird, but it's helped me tremendously. Make sure you are battling with the sound on. It helps you count moves and sometimes the sounds come before the animation so if you play as much as I do you can actually figure out who they are switching in just based off of the sound before you even see the animation lol
