"Homer Goes To College" is absolute perfection. Fuck, Conan knew how to write this show.

Homer's hatred for the Dean is one of the funniest things the show has done.

 

Calling someone a "jerk" as a synonym for idiot is also fantastic

I watched one from the most recent season last night because Jeff Martin wrote it, pretty solid actually. Animation weirded me out and it flowed a little weirdly, but there were solid jokes at least.

 

the new animation definitely weirds me out.

 

one of the subtly funniest jokes of all time. Took me forever to understand this as a kid lol.

Haha I never noticed until now the parody of Billy's "Zero" shirt he wore throughout the Mellon Collie tour. I quoted this line endlessly though even though I knew nothing about cigars. I remember watching the commentary on this episode and the writers' were like "yeah, I don't think the drummer was in the band for very long after". Two months after this episode aired JC OD'd.

 

Also, Courteny Love was slated to cameo on the episode but the members of Sonic Youth protested, saying they'll back out if Courtney came on

I basically feel like 1-10 are essential, 11-12 are worth watching but when the decline starts, and after that you can basically stop whenever you start getting bored

Oh and the movie is essential too, I would suggest using that as the series finale actually

Oddly enough, I think through five seasons, my favorite episode has been "Bart's Inner Child," but fuck, there's something in all of these episodes that's just fantastic. Nothing misses right now. Starting S6 tomorrow evening.
