I’ve been watching the premier league, but watching American sports while 5+ million people lose their insurance, death totals approach 150,000, secret police are snatching people on the streets and all states are hellbent on kids going back to school in six weeks really makes it completely unenjoyable for me to watch. It’s a joke that sports are starting again in this country.

Interesting that several people in this thread are now praising how progressive Joe fucking Biden is. We can vote for him and still not pretend like he’s good!

watching sports right now would make me feel the same as i do when i go out in public, it makes mee feel slightly better to get some normalcy, but feel guilty and wonder if I'm hurting more than I'm helping

  7. They’re just repeating what Bernie Sanders himself said.

The NHL is doing it all in Canada so they'll probably be fine too lol

You’re right! But we don’t have to delude ourselves into thinking that we’ll see a progressive agenda once/if Democrats win.

  11. I agree with Bernie Sanders, with his same caveat: if enacted. The platform has some very good stuff in it and I see no reason for denying that, while also saying Joe Biden, himself, can fuck completely off.

I'm not even voting for him lol, just gonna participate in the LA downballot races

I'd vote for him if popular vote was a thing

yeah but chances are we'll see a more progressive agenda than the last Dem president just based on the platform alone. That's a good thing!

Biden will abandon that platform so fast it'll make your heads spin should he actually manage to get into office lol

He doesn't believe in any of it and none of the people he will surround himself with in his administration will either.

Not gonna lie, as pro-vaccine as I am, the details of the Oxford vaccine freak me the fuck out lol. Sounds like every bad disease/ecological disaster movie ever.

The next line says it's been altered so much so that it can't infect/cause sickness in humans, and all I keep thinking of is:

For sure. Also even if we take the senate back it's just going to be more calls for bipartisan bullshit and civility and filling the pockets of industry. A real progressive government will never happen until speaker, majority leader, and president are all decent people

Not to mention packing the courts, another thing libs will never do

I hope so, but we can’t have another Obama. We’re going to be lucky if any part of the ACA is still intact after Trump. What can Democrats do to put progressive policies in place that aren’t immediately dismantled by the next fascist who wins the electoral college? I don’t think a Biden administration is capable of that. And we shouldn’t pretend like 4 years of the historically most centrist Dems will achieve anything close to what we NEED

The answer is, as long as conservatives dominate the judicial branch, nothing. That's part of why the 2016 election probably ends up being the most important election in our lifetimes.

  22. I actually think they're gonna work relatively (2020 adjusted terms) well. I don't think the sports themselves will lead to more outbreaks within the general populace, with all the testing and such, it's the kind of testing/tracing/isolating that we should be doing on a massive scale. People will (and are) testing positive (I think today was the first day with no new NBA positive tests), but it seems like it's 'working' so far.

Fans/stadiums/college sports however, that feels like a year or more away.

Yeah I just think it's gonna get players and eventually maybe their families sick. And sports with more close contact like football/basketball/hockey seem like they're just not great ideas.

Baseball is mostly separate on the field, minus the batting box and the amount of time runners spend on 1st base. Not sure if it'll result in less infections or not.
