I really don’t get the obsession with backwards compatibility on either side. I mean, sure it’s nice that you’d get to play games you missed out on during this current gen but like...beyond that? People are actually excited about playing old generation games? It’s not really my thing. I wanna play the new stuff. Doesn’t appeal to me at all if I’m honest.

I mean it’s brilliant about free upgrades, I get that. But people shouting about playing original Xbox games? Even if I could play PS1 games I wouldn’t care - it’s a gimmick that’d interest me for all of five minutes.

I completely understand using the new gen consoles for Xbox one and PS4 games initially - it makes total sense and with the free upgrades to next gen / improvements it’s a no-brainer until there’s a decent catalogue of next gen titles. But really? Are people seriously clamouring to play games from 2/3 generations back? Having a back catalogue you want to clear from the last generation I get. Wanting to play original Xbox and PS1 games personally doesn’t interest me in the slightest. I bought the new console to play new stuff. It’s bad enough everything’s a remaster as it is. Definitely don’t feel like back-stepping for a nostalgic five minutes and I think using it as a console-selling point is odd.

I got gta vice city last year and was so excited to play it again before I realised how whack the controls were and that I can’t help comparing it with the modern-day counterparts. I had fun, but I cba to play it through in full ever again. Not when there’s excellent current gen stuff I could be delving into.

Obviously that situation I completely get. I just personally, as I said, don’t get the need for it and how it’s this huge feature people are touting when there’s some seriously interesting tech at play here. It’s cool, sure. It wouldn’t sell a system for me though, if one had it over the other.

Yes I am obviously living in a bubble where I thought my opinion on backwards compatibility would change the focus of Sony and Microsoft. What are you talking about? I know I talk arse sometimes but seriously? All I said was I personally don’t get it. I never said they’d change their plans according to my will. I never said any of you should agree with me. You really are baffling and abrasive for the sake of it sometimes.

 

I was joking, man, but the way you write definitely makes things you say seem more abrasive or intransigent than you may think.

 

There's a ton of old games I have and want to play but can't because I cba to set up my old consoles and some of them are broke. Plus I know I won't finish all my ps4 games before the ps5 comes out and I don't want to keep my ps4 if I don't have to. I have the same issue every gen so I just have more and more games I never finish lol.

Didn't you know it's just easier to buy and own all the consoles ever made and all their controllers, accessories and cables just to play the games you want to play?!

Why, I've purchased a shed just to store and categorize all my games cartridges, disks, boxes and peripherals! It's the easiest and cheapest method!
