Are you familiar with post modernism and/or post structuralism? Tbh I don’t think any of these people that have that attitude have a genuine link or even know what either of those words mean but post modernism in particular is sort of responsible for like “there is no truth”

 

Yeah I am and I know but that’s like...different idk!!!! Maybe it’s not different lol.

Maybe I should read more into this. I struggled with all that tbh and had trouble grasping it/keeping them separate so a better deep dive might help me understand

Edited to add; what I also meant was like back in the day there was all this Official Grappling with what truth even meant and it’s like that’s completely abandoned now. No one cares

imo we have a total idiot in the white house as a 'leader' and he has given a voice to all the idiots of our country. And I used to be worried when it was just cable news that was the main source of boomers being fed false narratives and baseless “facts”, but now it’s running rampant on all the platforms being used by people our age. And so many of them fall for the first headline they see that feeds into their fears and agendas and they do no further exploration to pick apart truth from distortions. They just hit retweet or share and feel good about themselves, not knowing what sort of damage they’re doing.

Really makes it hard for me to have hope for our future because I worry that years from now, all these YouTube educated conspiracy heads who are being radicalized at a young age will be vying for positions of power and massive influence on a scale that is unconscionable to us now.

like we are not that old yet. Why am I the only one who is forced to be like “uhm oh yeah you see that joke is actually stemmed in racism and you shouldnt post it” and getting “UHH YEAH BUT ITS A JOKE”

Of course, the opposite could be true and we have a renaissance and reclamation of the importance of truth, but that requires these massive corporations to do their part in snuffing out the trash on social media before it has the chance to spread, and that only happens if they undergo and serious sea change in their operations. Too many of them don’t have the spine to do it on the level required because they’re afraid of the people who will misuse the meaning of the first amendment to attack them, and are concerned about how the backlash to stifling the dangerous rhetoric will hurt their bottom line.
