Hey I get that games are expensive to make! Let's raise the price to $70 for a new game, sure!

Just as soon as we go back to the days of in-game unlockable content and remove all forms of MTX from non-free games entirely.

Can't have it both ways, game industry!

It's just fucked, like they tell us they have no choice but to do MTX because game prices haven't risen in years, and now they're finally going to raise the prices but they're also going to keep the MTX? Nah.

People will moan about a price increase but it's a lot better than the studios closing down because they can't afford the lower price

can't wait for nerds to pretend to boycott

Eh, publishers are making money hand over fist with microtransactions, they're recording record profits despite the $60 price tag. They're just doing this to increase their profits even more.

I mean, who didn't see this coming? Every generation is £10 more expensive than the last. PS2 games were £30 brand new, PS3 £40 brand new, PS4 are £50, so of course they're going to charge £60 for PS5.

At least the games on the two main consoles go down in price. If the £10 makes a difference, sales or waiting a few months for second hand copies are the best bet. Unlike Nintendo where games like BOTW and MK8 are still £47.99 to this day.

I remember games always being in that £40-£50 range.

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

The people that are going to complain the loudest about this are the people who don't buy games until there's a big sale anyways lol

It's telling that the first company to do this is 2K, is all I'm gonna say.

it was around the last global recession that games went to 60

this site says there’s been 20% inflation to current day but — doesn’t account for the NEW global recession were currently experiencing

I’m gonna go ahead and say that $50 in 2008 = $50 today

it cost more to make a game yes but playerbases and revenue are through the roof

Not to mention they're printing money with MTX in paid $60 games as well.

Yeah for real, imagine being upset that gaming is going to get more expensive to enjoy for people who are already struggling financially.

Who would give a shit about that.

You're not solving the problem of people being underpaid or being out of work by not raising the amount of some games by $10.

I’ve heard a lot about people in the game industry with crappy hours but I have not heard much about them being underpaid - I mean these are people with CS degrees after all

No, not them being underpaid, the consumers.
