They’re easy they’re just creepy as hell and I don’t want their problems

Rational fan: "I would've made these changes as I didn't totally agree with this part, but it's not my story to tell, and there was still heaps of emotional depth despite my small gripes with it. I understand why Druckmann wrote it that way though."

Toxic Instagram/Reddit fan: "Should've played as Joel the whole time. He goes across America with Tommy killing ALL the infected while Ellie stays home and realises she's straight. She goes back to the hospital in a 30 second cutscene and allows them to create a vaccine which saves the world. Also Abby and Dina aren't characters."

About 30 minutes into this. Pretty good interview.

I mean, there are more than small gripes, but I get your point.

Just finished. I loved this. Too early to say more or less than 1 but I’m very glad whatever leaked plot I accidentally read a while ago was not true.

Really rude to make you stab a dog to death and then make you play fetch with that same dog as a different character hours before its demise

Finally finished it. What a game. I’ll need to gather my thoughts. This is a story about finding empathy and forgiveness in a hate filled world. I think that’s powerful in today’s climate. Kind of ironic and sad considering how much hate this game has gotten from people that didn’t even play it.

note - if you played it and didn’t like it that’s fine too. At least you gave it a shot rather than writing it off because some guy on the internet told you it would be bad due to the leaks.

I finished this a couple days ago. Took me just over 28 hours. I fucking loved it. It was an emotional roller coaster. Graphics and gameplay where good. The story isn’t as bad as some people say or think. The Abby story slows the pace of the game down but I get why they did it. I also understand why they ended it they way they ended it.

also the leaks did nothing in terms of sales as it sold over 4 million copies as of Monday. Making it the fastest selling ps4 game outselling Spider-Man

Were there even accurate leaks? The ones someone in here sent me were way off and came after the gameplay footage leaked iirc. Spent the whole game dreading killing Ellie and was surprised I didn’t have to

The only accurate leak was what happened early on in the game which sets up the whole story. Everything else they leaked didn’t happen.

Just finished. I don’t know. It was so fucking bleak and violent throughout that by the end it wasn’t even effective, the final moments fighting Abby on the beach was down right silly by that point.

Also I wonder if Troy Baker told Druckmann that (spoilers for Death Stranding) Death Stranding also ends in a boxing match on a beach. Speaking of, I'm pretty sure I found a mini statue of chiral crystals in the game. I assume that was an intentional easter egg and not just two connected hands

I agree. I just didn't care anymore at that point because it was so overused.

idk the bleakness worked for me. the world that it is set in is insanely dark and p much everyone is in survival/hunt mode to some extent. I don’t really fault anyone for not thoroughly enjoying themselves given that aspect tho. it can be very difficult to handle things that are so relentlessly bleak, and I def had to pause at times bc it was heavy af and I had to process it.

anyway, I think I have decided that a part 3 (if done with as much grace as this and the first) would be welcomed with open arms by me. I think after all of this I really want to see Ellie haves some semblance of a happy ending, though I wouldn’t want it to be too tonally dissimilar from the other two. just let there be some levity in the end, I just love ellie too much as a character to want this to be the end, but I am okay if it is bc it’s a masterpiece to me and also bc I wouldn’t be shocked if the blowback from this one turned them off to the idea. hard to say with its mixed reception (and the state of the world) what they’re feeling rn.

It wasn't the bleakness, none of that got to me, the violence didn't get to me either.

Just so many people died, I ended up not caring as much because I was no longer surprised when another died, it was just so repetitive.

I still think it should have been TLOU 2 (not part 2) and a different story with entirely different characters in a different part of the world.

When everything is depressing and bleak then none of the big moments really land. It's just like oh....more violence, more depression. And that goes on till it's almost comical

Imo and cuz of sales there will def be a 3rd one. The ending leaves a couple of loose threads 3 can be built around. The fans would be pissed if 3 is around a certain someone but I think it’s possible. Neil himself said he doesn’t know if his next game will be last of us 3 or a new ip. So either way I think eventually there will be a 3rd one. It’s at minimum 5 years away imo regardless of what route he goes.

I'm the same way. Some of it landed like the stuff with Lev which is my favorite part but otherwise everything else was just too forced.

I want Naughty Dog to try something in a completely different wheelhouse for them. They have the talent and as much as I enjoy the Uncharted and TLOU, I would like to see them tackle something else.

Also my first play through I ended it at 28 hours 47 min on moderate. 157 collectibles. 17 trophies. 10 bronze 6 silver 1 gold. That’s 41% of the trophies.

also I think title screen changing after you beat it is something. Idk if it’s a tease for 3 or dlc even tho they said there’s no plans for dlc. There’s meaning behind it I just don’t know what. I don’t think it has to do with the ending and where you end up.

Fairly certain the title screen for the first one changes after you beat it.

Watching the kinda funny spoilercast with Neil and co. right now and the title screen change actually just got brought up. He said it’s Catalina Island once you finish which is interesting.

    Just finished this.

Wow. Loved it. Loved what it was trying to do, and how it did it. I think it makes my top 3 of all time, and as much as I love the first, this was something else.

    Highlights:

    - The museum flashback scene was the first point in the game where I was like, "Okay. This is good. This is something." And from there it just kept building and changing and developing into a cinematic gaming gem.
    - Despite how bleak and depressing the settings and mood is, loved it. Those rainy Seattle days playing as Ellie were brutal, and day 2 of Abby walking through that hugely infected hotel with Lev was incredible.
    - So surprised how much I loved playing as Abby by the end of her 3 days. The Scars VS Wolves fight on the island with the fire and horseback sequence was something incredible. Her arc and relationship with Lev by the end of it had me rooting for her, and based on her flashbacks and her past, I completely understand why she killed Joel.
    - The first farm scene. I thought the game was ending there as went into this game only seeing the trailers, but it was a beautiful scene and to see Ellie and Dina happy was cool, until Ellie's past and want for revenge caught up with her. Emotionally heavy, and very well done. I loved that fact that Ellie's development in this game and TLOU story in general has brought her to be a jaded, angry and hateful person. Makes perfect sense.
    - The ending. By the end of this story, you can see that both Abby and Ellie are done with fighting. Ellie feels as though she has to end this, but doesn't want to as she knows it's essentially pointless. Abby didn't want to fight anymore as she put Lev in the boat. 2 beaten individuals who didn't know what they were fighting for anymore, and you can see this in their fight, and especially when Ellie goes to drown Abby.
    - Not spoilery, but the letters throughout the game fucked me up. If you're playing through, explore and try to find as many as you can. There's so many that are tragic, but a few where you can see glimpses of people just trying to survive and connecting as humans during a global pandemic and catastrophe. The letters are an absolute must.

    - Not spoilery again, but so many sections in the game where it just keeps going and building and you as a player can't catch your breath. The sound design and the mood is creates is brutal, and amazing.

There's so much more I loved and I could talk about this game for hours. Very little I disliked: Owen as a character in general., but despite all the misguided (haven't played/read leaks/hate girls in video games) hatred out there, I hope time favours this game and that it's revered as a classic, much like the first. For me, this is Naughty Dog's best title. 10/10.
