Their first two albums are nearly perfect for me and their third is close behind (although it has some filler).

Yea they're definitely worth another shot. Some of my favorite songs are the opening songs on the first three albums:
Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels), Black Mirror, and The Suburbs. All very different songs, but they evoke the themes and the moods of each album so well.

Neighborhood 1 is like the only song im like "yeah i love this"... then after that im always like "meh"

It's definitely a grower but that's the song that got me interested to spend more time with it. I saw you listed the Moon & Antarctica so you might like the song Neighborhood #3 (Power Out), it reminds me a lot of Paper Thin Walls by Modest Mouse with the rhythm of the vocals and guitar.

No love for Give Up by The Postal Service? That album is an absolute classic.

Also surprised by the lack of mentions of Sufjan Stevens and Tegan & Sara.

It's a lot harder to find indie bands from the 2000s that I enjoy than it is with the 90s. Hopefully this thread will be conducive to that

Perhaps there's no love for it because they don't have a self-titled album

Y'know, honestly, I've never given any Phil's work a real focused listen. He's one of the vocalist in my band's favorite songwriters, so we've listened to The Microphones a few times on the road... Usually it just ends up getting talked over. I've loved this song for a while though, and have meant to really give this album in particular a proper listen in headphones.

    Interpol
Grizzly Bear (Shields is an absolute masterpiece of songwriting and production)
    Flaming Lips
    Fleet Foxes

    immediately come to mind

Franz Ferdinand kindof has some incredibly infectious riffs even if they often broadly fail to appeal

the National is one of those bands that I should love in theory, but in practice, bores me to death

I guess Alligator is fine and the first Boxer songs...
