I agree with a lot of this, I think. I don't know that it's fair to call these conservative or republican views, when, as you note, they're supported by many democrats. Which, when you put Hillary in that context...

From my understanding, Democrats criticized him for signing a lot of Republican-backed legislation, particularly in his first term. You or anyone else is free to correct me.

I was referring more to the term hawkish rather than war hawk though I think both terms have been thrown around as a way of dodging a more specific answer to the questions Clinton seems to think air strikes will answer.

I was referring to the word hawkish which by definition refers to someone's appearance or a threat to diplomatic policy. I think I accidentally wrote democracy instead of diplomacy so I'll contend i was wrong there, but I'm certainly not confused. I agree Hillary is a war mongerer, but I still think the term war hawk is dated and a poor way to describe policy given its definition.

That was the political reality from the late 80's through the late 00's. It hasn't quite been the reality during the last 6 years or so of Obama's term, as the rightward shift the GOP has taken has kind of had a ripple effect of driving the Dems more left.

Oh--also, the Dems did that in the 90's because it was the only way to win a Presidential election.

That's not the only way to win a presidential election anymore.

Yet there's still mass deportation, unnecessary foreign military engagement, and no meaningful economic reform to address wealth inequality from the democrats. Honestly, I just don't believe this. We agree that the left has grown, but I disagree that the democrats are the avenue for their movement.

Lol. Somewhere Jacob and The Man in Black are arguing over whether or not we'll ever get out of the left vs. Democratic Party debate.

You're absolutely correct. He betrayed the democratic party with NAFTA and bank deregulation with the Riegle-Neal Act, and the famous 90s wall street deregulations

What if it goes back to the right? Like the backlash after the social movements in the '70's? Is mass incarceration still cool or immoral? I'm just asking because I think the logic above is ridiculous, quite honestly.

because as david might say, the "political reality" is that she will have to work with republicans to get anything done in office since they will at least contorl the house for the foreseeable future, pretending she wont lean into conservatism is absolutely ridiculous
yes, because when something is supported by democrats, it is therefore not "conservative," this is how politics work. when blue dog democrats support conservative policies, those policies actually become "liberal"

The reality for Republicans is they either need to change, or die as a party. Pretending Democrats working with Republicans in 2017 is the same as working with them in 1994 is to ignore reality. The Republicans are dying as a party. And ironically, they sort of started the death spiral by digging their heels in against Obama. Though changing demos and shifts in ideology of younger voters are more to blame.

this is really the one that gets me, as if there isnt ample evidence in her record and statements that is complete garbage.

    a smattering:
    • Supports DOMA, which Bill Clinton signed. (Jul 2007)
    • Telling kids about gay couples is parental discretion. (Sep 2007)
    • DOMA discrimination holds us back from a more perfect union. (Jun 2013)
    • Co-sponsored bill to criminalize flag-burning. (Jan 2010)
    • Longtime advocate of death penalty, with restrictions. (Jan 2008
    • I now oppose Keystone, but I withheld opinion at first. (Oct 2015)
    • OpEd: 2003 Iraq vote unmistakably authorized war. (Nov 2010)
    • Iraq war vote was meant to be used as coercive diplomacy. (Jan 2008)
the last one is so good i can barely handle it, not even two years apart and suddenly the iraq vote was something entirely different

Let me know where I said she's perfect, hasn't taken any bad or conservative stances, etc. There are a lot of bullets on the link you provided that document her democratic/liberal stances. Go figure.
