More and more is a dud

 

Just finished listening to the album. A big eh to me, its pretty forgettable. Can’t say I love any songs on it but would need to spend more than one listen. Definitely in the bottom tier of their albums maybe their worst or second worst after Resurrection. Pretty disappointing.

 

This was hard to get through. Those lyrics *mega facepalm in epic fashion*

After a couple listens, this is a giant leap back from Makes Me Sick. I loved that direction they were heading and instead they released some half baked rushed autopilot album. Yes there’s catchy bits but it’s largely very forgettable.

 

I regret sleeping on Resurrection all these years, only because Stubborn is such an awesome song.

 

There is some meh stuff on resurrection but there are a handful of tracks I really enjoy

I absolutely loved the direction they went with Makes Me Sick. Easily my favorite NFG album in a long time. Overall, I like that album way more than Forever + Ever x Infinity, but there are a handful of songs on the new album that I really like and find myself returning to. It just seems like there are a lot of skips on the album to get to the 6 or 7 songs that I really love.

 

This is rumor and I am in no way stating this declaratively. But it is interesting as a long time NFG fan and I heard this from a source that I trust though it very well could be BS.

Has anyone else heard any speculation that Steve Klein was hired to ghost write a few songs on Makes Me Sick? While the "you can't even shake my hand" and other preachy stuff would seemingly be written by Chad, songs like Blurred Vision seem to me like they could have been ghost written as they are higher quality musically and lyrically than most of what has come out on other post-2013 albums.

As an aside, I emailed the local San Luis Obispo newspaper and confirmed that as of a month ago Steve hadn't even started the jury trial yet.

 

No chance in hell Steve has had anything to do with the band since they kicked him out.

Yeah, isn't the song "The Worst Person" apparently about him? I think the bridge is burnt between him and the band.

Steve throws shade at the band on twitter without mentioning their name. But he then deletes them

Steve was never the music writer anyway. He was a lyrics guy. Not sure why improved music would be attributed to the former rhythm guitar player.

 

Seems like he is trying to make it as a producer?

 

At this point in time we won't get confirmation (unless a third party has solid evidence) that Steve was the main lyricist. If the current line-up says it was Steve then this whole site will lose it.

 

The songs I for sure believe Chad wrote are the preachy songs (party on apocalypse, your jokes aren't funny, etc.), bro songs (Ready and Willing, one more round, etc.), and the embarassingly cheesy love songs like the majority of the new album.

 

Steve must have a really good (and expensive) lawyer if they were able to get trial pushed 7 years

 

After seeing Steve's last tweet, it would be a huge shock if he was still working with them in any way. My friend who has connections to the band is adamant though. I'll leave it there. I like some of the guitar parts on the new album, but I can't believe people in their late 30s or early 40s wrote those lyrics.

 

Hopeless just emailed about my preorder with a new link to a .zip file, and it's 1.55 GB of the album as WAV files. huge

What did Steve tweet?

I feel there's a bit of a pattern with NFG with their last few albums.

Catalyst-more a heavy, quite "dark" album.
Coming Home-Light, soft, lots of piano etc. Most of the band all loved up.
Not Without A Fight-Again, a bit more angry. Back to basic punks. Apparently a lot of the band were going through breakups when they wrote this.
Radiosurgery: Really summery and upbeat
Resurrection: Another more hard album.
Makes Me Sick: Back to the sunny stuff, almost a beachy vibe to this one.
Forever and Ever: Another more heavy and "tough" album.
