Just want to add Governor Parson is also a massive piece of shit. Didn’t even get elected and doesn’t commit to anything besides “It’s up to the people.”

Even after three and a half years, it still hasn't entirely sunk in just how entirely bonkers the president is. Like, I know he's insane, but like, more than that.

Ugh, NH is lifting stay at home orders entirely and no maximum occupancy anywhere. Only an advisory from here on out.

I'm so confused by our numbers though. Somehow our daily confirmed cases have gone down dramatically to 30-something per day, but deaths seem pretty consistent throughout, mostly at elderly care facilities. And this is after increasing our testing to everyone in the state, so it makes no sense to me that cases seem to have cut in half

Someone I know who has a small little online platform and is an activist has been sharing stuff like specifically calling out brands that haven’t responded and how we all “need” to be using our money and boycotting them or emailing/commenting to express your disappointment

I guess bc I’m cynical enough to believe the statements mostly don’t mean shit (I hope that when they say they are donating, they really did tho) then I’m just like who cares? I mean of course having statements would be nice but we know most of them are meaningless gestures with no action to back it up?

I just feel like it seems like a very strange thing to be spending your time on right now. Like let’s pressure brands into making disingenuous pr statements is rly the top priority here?

I'm totally there with you on being cynical of that kind of stuff. But I guess I can see how even though the intent behind a statement may not be genuine, there can still be positive impact to others by getting the message across further and louder. It makes it more mainstream and might help people start to challenge their own beliefs as they feel increasingly outnumbered

I don't have any real data or research on that, though

I laughed so hard when TJ Maxx sent me an email about racism last night, nobody needs that haha

Oh totally yeah I said the other day that I deff believe in like net positive model thinking, in the sense that even if they aren’t genuine it can still have a positive effect that’s larger than the intent. However I should have said, even if that’s true in this case, I still think that’s a pretty strange cause to take up right now when there are obviously so many more impactful ways to get involved.

idk. It just seemed very odd to me and idk how I feel about it haha

I for one think it’s very important that the black community knows that Gushers sees them and stands with them

Seems like with a lot of the focus now being shifted to taking down monuments (which is 100% a good thing and needs to happen) there's a danger for these protests to become about symbolic cultural battles instead of material changes. I think most activists on the ground are still pushing for police defunding/reforms etc but with it being so absorbed into the mainstream and the democratic party I hope we don't lose the radical potential this moment has.

I saw today that Chris Carrabba was in a serious motorcycle accident and released a statement about his condition. He said that he will have lots of surgery and rehab ahead, then mentioned his support for BLM and basically apologized in advance for not being super active politically in the near future. That’s not exactly related to the subject of brands being silent, but it did stand out to me that someone with a large platform who’s currently in a terrifying personal situation was still able to show support and specify that things aren’t all about them. The more time passes the more conscious I get of who hasn’t said a word, especially when it’s people I follow who are normally very vocal about other subjects.

yeah it definitely helps in both a positive and negative way, seeing how people are allies with BLM or trans people can be really uplifting, and I know I'm right not to trust people who write an inauthentic statement or say nothing

Yeah individual people are different imo. Even smaller brands or more “intimate” brands even if they aren’t actually intimate I can even understand. But some of the brands were companies like Pepsi and frito lays. Aka like some of the biggest corporations there are here. They are evil up and down tbh and no amount of fake statements will change that.

also like Pepsi already ended racism with their Kendall Jenner ad so we must cut them some slack

Oh yeah that’s totally different. Seeing the huge brands post things or change their website layout or something when there are tooooonnnnns of known complaints about how they run their business and have contributed to or profited from racism gets a big eyeroll. Those companies need major major change or dismantling in order to actually do some real good for the world.
