More BAD NEWS for Drew... apparently Adam Cole's contract has another 18 months left on it and isn't expiring in August

  12. That is too bad

I don’t think Cole will ever leave WWE unless pushed.

Same. Way before he even joined, he did interviews about how WWE was his goal. I feel as if he’s very much in the same mould as KO and believes in himself to succeed.

Like I get that WWE was the goal for people like Owens and Cole and whatnot but I feel like goals change. There is a viable second big league option now, so it’ll be interesting how much appeasing the little kid who loved wwe growing up outweighs getting a similar sized check with less travel.

  16. I’ve only tuned in every once and awhile, but WWE seems so unwatchable right now. Part of it isn’t their fault. Having no crowd is tough. But when you look at how AEW, and from I’ve read on here NXT, has been doing that excuse kinda goes out the window. The main reason I haven’t been watching is because it’s impossible to connect with any of the characters. The storylines are so bad. And the wrestling doesn’t really pick up the slack. It’s rough times.

Thats when things are gonna get interesting; can AEW sustain its model without house shows? Or with extremely limited shows (a la NJPW). If so, then a bunch of guys in their upper 30s who are great friends with the Bucks and others on that roster are gonna have really interesting calls to make in 2-3 years. And AEW is gonna have an interesting call to make in whether taking them on is actually good for them at that point

Even if they added house shows, what’s the likelihood that they’d run as many as wwe? Gonna be interesting to see how they evolve over the next couple of years. (I’m not considering what covid will do in the future to the business, though)

Do house shows make that much money?

They used to. Most of the money came from merch sales.

I don’t see how WWE even makes money off house shows anymore. The last few I went to had super low attendance

They dont anymore; the brand split + general decline after WM34 saw them go from profitable to like, break even or even money losers. They were already cancelling some house shows with low attendance this past winter and spring before Covid. But that doesnt mean they'll really change their model.

Id imagine super low. I suspect when the 2nd TV show hits, that'll become a live show as well eventually. But even then, something like back to back nights of taping in close-by cities is a far more workable life than the WWE slog.

Yeah, I don't think the whole childhood dream thing really plays into much if AEW continues to succeed. All these guys joined WWE when it was the only game in town and now have a genuine alternative that is in many ways better. Combine that with the fact that it's being run by their friends. I'm sure some will still stay, but I'd be shocked if there isn't a mass exodus over the next few years.

I’m going through the attitude era stuff because I was a WCW kid and there’s so much shit I missed out on but holy shit a lot of the attitude era is awful, basically unwatchable offensive garbage lol
