Damn, swap out Polaris for The World You Love and I'd essentially agree with that

I don't like Big Casino either. Just screams Big Dumb Single to me - no idea why they didn't release Here It Goes in its place

 

Two votes for Invented in top 10's. Thats surprising.

Ha, well, feel free to swap "Let It Happen" into that part of the sentence if you like. My point was that those are kind of the last JEW songs that REALLY get a huge response at live shows, at least from my experience.

I really love "Big Casino," especially live. I'd have a few other songs on Chase ahead of it in the queue, though ("Carry You," "Chase This Light").

I'm pretty close on those two, and could have gone either way. Lyrically, "The World You Love" is one of my favorites.

As for "Here It Goes" as the lead single, they were following up what had worked super well for them on Futures, so "Big Casino" made perfect sense.

Last part of that song is maybe my favorite part of their entire discography.

 

Here It Goes doesn’t come close to Big Casino. Probably one of my least favorite songs on the album (although I enjoy the whole thing).

 

'Big Casino' slander hurts me physically

 

The ballad part of "Invented" is some of my very favorite Jim Adkins lyrical work. It's really evocative, scene-setting stuff that is pretty unique from his usual style. And yeah, the big payoff at the end is wonderful.

 

it's the only other song that kinda scratches the itch from 23

 

What direction would you like them to go on their next album? I wonder if we get one sooner rather than later with the whole COVID thing.

 

Chase This Light the song is fantastic

 

one of his best vocal performances imo. first few seconds of that song are gorgeous

 

I would really love to hear them go after the sound of Stay on My Side Tonight a bit more fully.

What is a Big Casino exactly, can anyone say? Aren't all casinos fairly big? Has anyone ever told you you're so cool that all the salt in the world couldn't melt that ice? It's just a catchy rock song filled with the clunkiest shit Jim ever wrote down

 

Honestly i would love if they did another album that's musically/sonically in the vein on Integrity Blues. Absolutely adore that record.

Alternatively, if they could somehow blend the poppiness of Chase This Light with Integrity Blues.... wow that'd be an album.

 

I believe Big Casino is a reference to a side project he had called Go Big Casino.

 

Besides this being my second favorite JEW record (if not my top tbh) here’s another weird JEW take of mine: big casino might be my favorite JEW single

 

I completely disagree. I'd absolutely love to see them play Sure and Certain or you Are Free or Pol Roger live. And My Best theory and I Will Steal You Back both go off live.
