Haha it has been one thing after another since he suspended his campaign. It’s the ten plagues until we enact his platform and we’re only on like number 4. Not looking forward to the climate change plague.

The National Guard is pretty damn different from the military imo. Members are on duty, what, a couple days a month? And 90% of their actual job is disaster relief. I also don’t know if it’s a requisite but I would assume most if not all members are residents of their state, and obv they are under the exclusive power of the governor. Compare this with referring to the “military” which is a term that could just as easily apply to any full-time soldier across the country under Trump’s direct command. The National Guard may technically be the “military” of that state but I think in practice they’re functionally quite different

 

Here in MN I know NLG/criminal defense lawyers who are in the National Guard. Like, people whose job it is to hate the cops lol

Both my brothers were in the national guard. Don’t know primarily what it was like before 9/11 but post it was definitely militarized. They were both deployed overseas and in Iraq multiple times. Pretty sure they each volunteered to go once or twice which is just awful to me. Would not want them anywhere near protest or crowd management.

It’s good to this shit. For context, St. Charles County is a conservative, racist suburb of STL that a lot of white people from North County ran to when black people started coming into places like Ferguson. Those same people are why the Metrolink, STL’s public transport service, doesn’t go to St. Charles because those people don’t want “undesirable elements” in their bland white suburb.

 

Oh it’s absolutely obviously a literal militarized force and I absolutely do not want the NG here either lol. Driving around Mpls seeing groups of dudes in camo with rifles is horrifying. But at the same time I think they are/have been better capable of handling this shit with less inciting acts than the stupid and evil cops that were basically the cause of the Mpls riots, and I would have to assume better than a military acting under Trump’s orders

Yeah I didn't meant to infer they operate the same or anything, rather that I think a lot of people when the use the term 'the military' colloquially, they tend to think of the National Guard as part of that whole umbrella.

But yeah I def agree that there are some major differences between how they operate.
