Watching Extraction now (paused to post) - action in this is like cutting into a vein and pouring sugar right into it - straight up pleasure for the male brain

Finally got my fiancée to agree to start Rectify. Watched the first episode tonight. She seems to dig it so far.

I don’t think I ever actually finished Rectify. I think I thought they took it off Netflix for whatever reason. Might have to get on that.

I never had extremely high hopes, but it's a great cast and the trailer was actually enjoyable. Was hoping it would be fun at least, but these reviews seem like it's a hard pass

The trailer seemed good. Not gonna read the reviews. I'll just see for myself.

52% on Rotten Tomatoes is about as exacting a split in interest/quality as you can get. Half liked, half didn't. (25 reviews listed so far)

RT is more a measurement of accessibility than quality

Personally I put no weight into RT or reviews in general

I only really read reviews after I’ve seen something but if I see a critic I like/respect praise or pan something I didn’t know much about otherwise, it goes into how much I’d want to see it

I use RT as a "should I watch this, yes or no?" type ranking and for the most part it serves well. It's far from a perfect system though

Plenty of jabronis are factored into RT scores, it’s useless

  18. More often than not, RT is a good barometer for whether I should watch a movie or not, especially with bigger, wide releases. I can usually judge for myself if I might disagree with the ciritcs consensus.

I think it's completely fair to take a broad look at RT scores and learn from it. If something gets like, 10% or less overall from a ton of critic reviews, there is a high chance it's terrible. If a film holds to a 95% or higher rating, that's also a good barometer that most people will like it.

That’s what I’m saying, it measures accessibility more than quality. If you’re wondering if you should see a superhero movie or something, sure. But for more challenging works it doesn’t say anything. Plenty of brilliant films split critics.

plus a movie can get like a 5.5/10 and be considered "fresh" and a 5/10 considered "rotten"

i don't like RT scores. Feels like a lot of people see them before watching a film and then they've already made their mind up on it.
