An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

thank you! I thought it was a bit unimportant after some of the incredible writeups that got posted here (including yours) but I was happy to be out there stanning for this album either way

  3. This ended up entering the UK charts at #4 on Friday, we absolutely love to see that.

Decided I'm getting the box set edition of this soon!

  4. Thank you! Hey, no form of art is unimportant, including writing. I definitely understand the feeling though lol

A lot of the first half of the album is super Radiohead

A good number of songs would fit right in on In Rainbows.

like, radiohead isn’t the only band ever to have used prominent bass guitar and electronics lol

Yeah that’s a lazy comparison. A few closer recs— Half Waif, Angel Olsen, Oshwa, Wye Oak, POLICA...

I've missed most of the conversation about this album thus far, but in all fairness, she did cite Thom Yorke as an influence And, you can definitely hear that at different points.

But, yeah, saying any songs straight up sound like Radiohead songs is probably a step or two too far? lol. She probably took about as much inspiration from them, in different ways, as Thrice did during the Beggars era.

Yeah I’ve still only listened to the first EP, but did not get Radiohead vibes much at all

right. there’s a difference in saying that there are portions of the album maybe influenced by the band and saying that the songs could fit on a radiohead album

Feel like you can’t be a modern rock/pop/experimental artist without citing Radiohead as an influence. They’re like The Beatles in that way. I love In Rainbows, and I really like this album; I recognize the influence, but they’re not texturally or sonically in the same boat at all.

Right, like, find me a musician in alternative music who does not cite Radiohead as an influence

Lazy comparison, sure fine. But I don't care, not walking it back lol. I hear songs like Leave It Alone and Roses/Lotus/Violet/Iris and I hear In Rainbows. I love that album and this one.

I wouldn't walk it back either, it's undeniable with the bass and drums on some cello parts etc., but it's cool some of you can throw something more similar to the sound, though it's still doubtful she actually took some more inspiration from most of them. That's just better analysis of the final product, but the influence is there and it's also confirmed, unoriginal or whatever, but undeniable.

    i don't think it's a lazy comparison. it's there

  21. I mean she has mentioned his influence alongside Bjork in like so many interviews, comparisons to either are accurate

Hits Daily Double has the album at number 18 with 22k sales. That makes much more sense to me than 8k!

I think there's a miscommunication happening here. There's a difference between what's "influential" and what sounds "similar" to this album. Not doubting Radiohead influenced the album. The final product just doesn't sound like them.

i still hear them in a lot of the sound of this record. wye oak's another good parallel

I agree, but it's rare that something really sounds like another band with outstanding features etc., it's usually just a shortcut to say something might have been influenced by it or takes hints, shares elements and stuff, that's enough ;D
