My only experience with this series is renting the first one once as a kid. I know people loved the first two, but what were the complaints against the rest of the series? Does this seem to be a return to form?

The fact that they're making a big deal out of it being the 35th anniversary of Mario makes me think there will more more announcements like this

Super Paper Mario on Wii was a fun game but it wasn't a true RPG. It was like a 2.5D/3D hybrid game. It had really good writing though and was actually fun for what it was. It just wasn't a real Paper Mario game.

Sticker Star on 3DS was trash because it took out everything that made Paper Mario great without making up for it in any way like SPM did. No partner characters, no leveling up, the writing wasn't as good, you moved alone a Super Mario World-style world map and played through "levels" instead of the old games' structure where there was a hub world and then you went to multiple explorable zones the connected out from the hub (even Super Paper Mario did this!). And to make matters worse, you were actually disincentivized from battling enemies because you didn't level up from beating them and all of your attacks were connected to single-use stickers that you lost after using them. So literally it devolved into every level being a mad dash to the end while avoiding as many enemies as possible. It just sucked.

Color Splash on Wii U was pretty much just a bigger-budget iteration of the same shit as Sticker Star.

So we haven't had a true Paper Mario game since Thousand-Year Door on Gamecube.

Mario Collection and Mario 3D World are both rumored right.

I feel like that’s gonna actually happen

Yeah, I wonder if they're just going to randomly drop the trailers for the Mario remakes and the 3D World port just like this. Doesn't pack quite as much of a punch as a Mario-focused Direct would have but hey I'll take what I can get.

A new, return-to-form Paper Mario game was also part of that leak so I'm assuming the rest is probably accurate.

i've already played 3D world to completion, maybe except for the last 2 levels post-game so I can wait a while to grab it but I'm purchasing that 3D collection day 1.

The leak said that the 3D World port would also include new content.

Also I really don’t need morality lessons from video game pundits lol

He's right though, as much as I love Nintendo they tend to enforce copyright law vigorously when it benefits them and wipe their asses with copyright law when it doesn't. Can't have it both ways. Also they do everything they possibly can to prevent people from easily purchasing their classic titles legally (which most people would be glad to do).

Ok, but all it does is encourage people to pirate and people like that won't stop with Nintendo and will pirate from companies and studios that deserve the money.

    He can go fuck himself.

Eh, he's not saying it's morally ok to pirate anyone else's games so I don't know where you're getting that leap in logic from.

Also, again, he's not wrong. Nintendo is 100% in the wrong when it comes to how they shit on fair use and abuse things like ContentID and the DMCA to force content creators into that obscene revenue split deal just to be able to cover their games on YouTube. It's pretty horrible that they do that. So why should their copyrights be respected when they don't respect the rights of others? They literally steal money from the pockets of hard-working content creators when they claim video revenue through ContentID on YouTube.

Well, if you sample a song for your song, you pay royalties, so if you use a game for your content, why not pay for that too. Maybe paying for a sample shouldn't be a thing either, but I at least understand why some video game companies want the same kind of deal other industries get.
