It was just a conversation, my impression was that I don’t think it’s a thing that’s gonna work, wasn’t meant to be an argument or get jumped all over. I just couldn’t imagine people paying to watch a concert in an empty room. Just for me in my mind doesn’t hold an experience. Looking more for conversation not necessarily to be judged.

Would you rather these artists and bands not try to do something that makes them money and not give their fans extra content during this time? I just don’t get what you’re getting at.

You know what? Never mind....I just just bringing it up cause this seems like the direction the industry is going in. It’s fine I’ll just drop it.

While I have no interest in watching live-streams that are free, let alone pay for any.....there are many people out there who pay to watch other people play video games online, so there may be an audience?

Paid live streams definitely aren't for everyone, but locking content behind a pay wall works with youtubers so I don't think this is much different than a youtuber having patreon exclusive content

I’ve watched a lot of live-streams since the pandemic started and it’s been great. I get to listen to my favorite musicians without having to leave my bed or my home, which is awesome. The fact that so many of them have been free is extra special because bands are basically playing for no compensation in a time where they aren’t making any money. I’m very grateful for that.

Also, there’s definitely an audience for live-streams, it just depends on the artist.

Any artist's first concert back is going to have a special feeling but can't imagine any one topping the energy Grohl will display when they play their first one.

I've paid for live streams, and will continue to. Not everything is worth paying for, but if artists are creative and can find ways to generate revenue, then good for them. I guess your argument wasn't that artists shouldn't do them, just that you don't think there's an audience for them. But I promise you there is. I've seen cover bands bring in a few thousand dollars playing for 90minutes on a live stream.

I felt $10 was worth paying for The Wonder Years stream since I didn't get to see the tour. $20 might have been a bit much.

I'm missing being in a pit for shows quite a bit, but bands won't be around for those if the fans don't support them through times like this.

Dan also mentioned that they had to go into crazy debt after the last leg of the tour was cancelled, and they don't have an income otherwise, as they can't tour right now.

If paying as much as $20 (it's $10, but still) for a livestream ensures that they're able to tour in-person again once we get the all clear, I'll happily pay them the $20. Invest in the bands you love's future.

There’s a reason so many artists are doing things like Patreon and live-streams. If they can’t find a way to make money right now, they can’t make rent, pay utilities, buy food, etc.

They're right you can't stay inside forever but that doesn't mean that its still okay to a summer tour during all this

They can try to tour all they want, but they’re gonna be stopped no matter what lol. I can’t help but crack up over bands thinking they can actually go through with it

Good thing the artist has almost nothing to do with this decision. It's gotta go through the local promoter, the venue operators, the local government and the artist's management
