same sometimes, Jawbox and Jawbreaker is the one I get confused the most though

 

For reasons that defy logic, I get Streetlight Manifesto and Manchester Orchestra confused all the time.

 

I don't like Leonard Cohen. At all.

 

Also, I saw Panic! at the Disco last night and it reminded me....

Pretty. Odd. is a terrible album, one with pretty excellent musicianship that is pretty much ruined by the lyrics alone. It's cringeworthy how desperately the lyrics try to emulate the stoner nonsense of Sgt. Pepper-era Beatles and how completely they miss the mark.

Ryan Ross ended up becoming a terrible musician and I'm glad he's not making terrible, derivative music anymore.

I like Pretty Odd more than Fever. I don't think Fever has aged well. It sounds outdated and you can just tell how young and inexperienced they were. At some parts Brendon sounds like he's still going through puberty and hasn't figured out his voice yet. I think that's a minority opinion cause I was heavily disagreed with when I posted it in a PATD thread before ha

 

No Closer to Heaven was a top 10 record for me last year.

I'm not a huge fan of of No Closer to Heaven but the main criticism (that they didn't change anything) is ridiculous.

 

It's not that ridiculous, the songs sound like second rate versions of TGG

Pretty Odd and Fever are so much better than anything Panic put out after that

 

I agree with the part about Brendons voice and it does feel a little dated but I still just love the songs and style of that album so much. Easily my favourite Panic album and Pretty Odd. Is a solid number 2.

 

If it makes you feel any better it's mostly because I think oasis is so irredeemably awful that the entire genre is a blight

 

Oasis are pretty much the only Britpop band I like and even then it's only Morning Glory and a few singles. I like "Common People" a lot too I guess.

 

It is ridiculous when the band has essentially sounded the same for the last three albums and made an actual departure in lyrical content and tone. Like, it's still their weakest album since Stoked. I just don't get how they can do three albums of "I'm anxious and hate this town" and the album they change that is when people go "man, they're the same."

Eh, I talked about this a lot in the TWY thread last night but I think it's just that they have diminishing returns for people after four albums of roughly the same sound (and I think TGG to NCTH is the smallest musical leap yet). Lyrically, yeah it's undeniable that they did something different, but musically that album feels super stale.

 

Sorry @FTank for doing this to you two days in a row! I don't think you're wrong.

 

That's completely fair and I don't disagree with that. For me it's enough that they advanced lyrically.
