Ugh my s/o's mom has been going down rabbit holes of conspiracy videos about the virus and now she's gone from being genuinely worried about it with her COPD to now thinking it's a hoax that every government in the world is involved in to make a new world order >_>

just gonna say this again as a teacher: really don’t want to be in a school building while a pandemic is going on.

To make it true distance learning they’re gonna have to actually add accountability on the student’s side of things for attending zoom meetings and doing the work and etc. there’s going to be an inequality problem but, let’s not kid ourselves, there’s already that problem even with in person instruction. A functioning federal government with a party interested in governing effectively could maybe spend the money on the infrastructure needed to reduce those inequalities in distance learning, but we’ve got Trump and the Republicans in charge, so...

Republicans are outwardly saying that people may die because of their policies. This should be the easiest messaging battle in the world for Democrats to win. I wonder how they'll screw it up

Only by 3%. Seems to just be winning the voters who hate them both. But those seem like the least reliable voters to actually turn up in November. Also is bad news for 2022 and 2024 even if he wins...

  17. Uh. You guys know there are multiple definitions for the word intercourse right? Hit that look up button your iPhone and check out the one from the New Oxford Dictionary that shows up at top.

oh for sure there shouldn't be in person learning but it's sad they didn't think of the logistics

The rate at which students with disabilities and ELLs are not doing the work is staggering. I'm doing grades this morning and had to "fail" 17 kids in my ICT class because I just haven't heard anything from them, meanwhile my AP class almost has full participation.

  20. I'm sure most people who see that quote will understand that and not think it's a weird ass thing to say, because it's actually in the dictionary if you look it up

My parental leave officially ends Friday but I’ve snuck on to the grade book a few times and talked to my sub and were seeing similar issues. Obviously some of it is our population and we have quite a few students who weren’t doing shit before this either lol. But for a lot of them the combo of shitty home lives with parents who are either too busy to make sure they’re doing the work and helping them, or don’t care at all, is tough to overcome even for non-Spec Ed students, let alone spec Ed kids.

ive been wracking my brain for the last couple weeks now trying to think of the best solution If we start distance learning next fall and I haven’t been able to come up with much that sound good. All the choices are bad IMO. Been trying to convince myself the least bad option is to get away from inclusion models for the year, and allow spec Ed students to be in their own separate classes of 7-13 (usually how many kids with IEPs I have in a class) that maybe...can come in for in person help/instruction a couple days a week with the spec Ed teacher? For like an hour and half at a time or something? Maybe have them be outdoors on the tennis court and football field and track and etc. during September when the whether is still nice, and then have them scatter throughout the school building in bigger areas where ventilation isnt a problem (cafeteria, main lobby, auditorium, band room, etc). And even have the material they’re learning be the exact same stuff the general Ed teacher is teaching their class online so even though it’s not true inclusion they’re still getting the general Ed experience with their modifications and accommodations as needed?

Idk. Like I said, there are no good ideas imo. But my worry is because every other idea is going to be complicated and involve spending money, state governments aren’t even gonna bother to try and figure it out and are just gonna send us back to the Petri dishes in September and wait for some students/teachers/parents/their families to die before shutting us down again and going back to distance learning anyway.
