I guess I'm in the minority but Handcuffs has always been one of my top 3 favorite Brand New songs.

There was a period of time where it was my favorite Brand New song. That time has long passed, but I still really love that song.

It's a bit repetitive. I used to love it, now I rarely listen to it.

If you don't like Hancuffs you could always just pretend it's actually a bonus track like everyone does for The Life of Pablo

Handcuffs is a good if not great song on an absolutely incredible album. There's absolutely no reason to feel bad about liking it just because some people don't.

So everything after "Ultralight Beam" on TLOP are just bonus tracks? Good to know.

Handcuffs was the perfect way to end Devil and God even if it isn't a perfect song. It's, musically, a breath of fresh air on an album that is so mired in its own darkness and heaviness and mood. Handcuffs is the exhale after nearly an hour of holding your breath. Lyrically, it's dark and sometimes very clumsy, but I think it works. The album it seems to me is about processing and dealing with your own demons, and sometimes those demons are the person you are and whatnot. The process of becoming a better person can be just as clumsy and fumbling, but also just as beautiful and I think now that Handcuffs shows that juxtaposition very well.

Handcuffs is fine, I cringe a little at the crying babies line.. Like I understand what it means but it puts a terrible image in my mind lol

Please be kind. Like actually kind though.

I never thought about what it means and i'm not sure I want too.

Maybe that's the point. I can't imagine someone saw that line and didn't think anything of it, had to be pretty deliberate. Self loathing should be a topic that elicits a similar response imo, it shouldn't be as normalized as it happens to be, to the point where it is never given a second thought. Because it's so common, maybe that just didn't cut it for showing how terrible of a person the narrator felt themselves to be, had to go for something really out there. That line is shocking, but it's so unbelievable that it feels like an of the moment emotional reaction, which also fit thematically to me. Is it a good line? Nah, no defense of it in that regards. I think other lines could've served that same purpose. But I wouldn't change it now.

All the Brand New vinyl has finally arrived then. All three of the new releases. I doubt I'll ever take the sticker off of the cover of IAAN. Watching someone on YouTube do it and rip the sticker was utterly cringeworthy to me and I died inside for whoever did it

Same here. There is no way I will ever take the sticker off for fear of damaging the packaging.

    The Feeling and the Sound

Vinnie wrote Handcuffs and he has a really distinct writing style. You can tell when he's writing and when Jesse is. There's a lot of jarring imagery in his lyrics.

I kind of like how bleak and harsh the lyrics to "Handcuffs" are, but the other part of me realizes there's probably a much more subtle way to get that message across.

Maybe it's the delivery - the dark lyrics in Coca Cola work so well for me because of how calmly he's singing them, and how they trail off.
