I think a directors name carries more weight these days than anything. With the expection of a Tom Cruise type, I don't feel actors sell a movie like it would if big "from the director of" is on the poster.

I could not tell you offhand who directed Civil War, Zootopia or Finding Dory. Most people couldn't name the Jungle Book or BVS's director

I think the definition of a movie star is just different, like I wouldn't necessarily call Chris Pratt a movie star in the classical sense

It's mainly about branding now, sequels or franchises

Mainstream directors are less important than ever in big-budget mainstream films. They purposely hire people like Trevorrow and people like him because they do not have enough clout to demand changes or final cut.

  6. They've sold some 20m copies of their albums ... that's not niche at all.

Movie stars still matter overseas, at the very least. Anything with Will Smith, Tom Cruise, etc. is almost guaranteed to make bank overseas.

They keep trying to make these old-fashioned movie stars out of younger actors and it has never worked. You look at Twilight and Harry Potter and most of them have disappeared while the ones that are still successful are doing independent work. These film franchises are bigger than the actors. I often wonder if they even really bothered to try and bring back any of the Jurassic Park actors.

Man based on how many comments/pages in this thread you'd think this movie was divisive or something

  12. Haven't been keeping this thread because it got weirdly hostile, but I just wanted to say that I thought most of this movie was silly, stupid, messy, uneven, and still pretty fun. Most of the criticisms I've seen are valid, including the soundtrack. The flaws are glaring -- it felt almost as if entire scenes that were important in context were left on the cutting room floor -- but the tone was an improvement over BvS, and if you can look past the poor editing and writing, there's no reason you shouldn't be able to have a little bit of fun with the main characters. I wish Kattana was utilized more. The backstories for Deadshot, Harley Quinn and El DIablo were interesting to me.

"I've got some grape soda on ice and a bearskin rug waiting for us."

I can't believe that's a real line someone actually wrote for the Joker, and that Leto read it, and that it somehow stayed in the movie.

Seriously one of the worst movie experiences/films I've ever sat through. Hated it. This summer has been so disappointing.

Haven't seen the movie yet (seeing it tomorrow) but I'd just like to say that Jared Leto is a tremendous douche whose work I almost fully enjoy, including his band. He's a great video director too

Also the Avengers movies are incredibly overrated

Just got back from the movie...

Way better than the RT ratings gave it but I agree that the plot and dialogue were missing something. Holes in character development as well. Interesting ending after the credits though. I give it a 7.5/10.

    Worse than BvS.

How can the trailers be so damn good and the movie be such a let down.

The only good part was Margot's Harley.
