  4. I'm revisiting KEN Mode's discography and oh boy how do I get their ferocious guitar tone. They remain the loudest show I've ever been to. Absolute madness

The body is just something that can't click for me, not a knock against them it's just not for me

But when they team up with thou, it's fucking stellar. I don't understand it.

Have you checked out their collabs with Full of Hell? Ascending a Mountain of Heavy Light might be my favorite thing by either band.

Man listened to Iowa last night after not hearing it for years. Such a heavy album. Easily Coreys darkest lyrics. Paul, and Joey also are champions on that record.

Iowa takes on a whole new angle when you learn about the background of everything the guys in Slipknot have been through with how fucking dark it is. Whole record reads like a cry for help masked behind aggression and rage. My Plague in particular with that line "You fucking touch me, I will rip you apart / I'll reach in and take a bite out of that shit you call a heart."

That album came out exactly one week after I started my freshman year of college. I went to school at SFA in the middle of East Texas (didn't graduate from there, but that's another story) and didn't have a car and didn't know anybody. There was only one record store in town, and all I knew was, "it's just straight down that street for a while" - So, I woke up at like 6am, ditched class, and started walking.

Maybe I should listen to it today for fun. I've never listened to a Slipknot album

The debut is good, but I'd argue Iowa is when they really came into their own. Still love the self-titled but I feel like it holds up less than Iowa.

Iowa is definitely the best but S/T is cool and an interesting cultural footnote on its own. Don't care much about anything after but the newest record is pretty cool.

This could easily go in the unpopular opinions thread but IMO the Slipknot discography goes as follows in terms of quality:

Iowa > We Are Not Your Kind > self-titled > . 5 - The Gray Chapter > Vol. 3 - The Subliminal Verses > All Hope Is Gone

More punk than metal, but features Pustulus Maximus from GWAR/Cannabis Corpse on vocals/guitar.

Inspired to post it here because this song in particular lifts the full solo from Ace of Spades.

    FFO: NWOBHM, speed punk

Got damn a new Bell Witch split with Aerial Ruin

Edit: it's actually a full on collaboration, not a split. Very cool.

Due to quarantine I was thinking it would be cool if chorus.fm metal thread members were to make a collaborative spotify playlist with a few rules to give variety and different takes.

    1. Once per day pick three songs from a unique album and artist and I will add them to the playlist.
    2. Once an album is picked that is the song representing the album, and can not be picked by another member. For example, I am picking the song "The Oath" by Mercyful Fate, which means any other songs off this album are no longer applicable because the first person to mention the album gets to pick the song.
    3. Each day of song choices has to have three unique artists daily. Ie. I can not pick a song off "Melissa" from Mercyful Fate today, however someone else can the same day, or any day until a song from the album has been selected. This is to prevent someone from having a monopoly on an artist.
    4. All genres of metal are allowed. Let us explore together.
    5. Quote me with your three picks each day so I can add them. This has started as of 4/29. I am a west coaster so each day rolls around at midnight PST, just for my sake.

    My first choices:
    Please format in this way:
Band - Album - Song (Feel free to explain why you chose each song if you want!)

Hellwitch - Syzygial Miscreancy - Mordirivial Dissemination (An evil thrashy love child of Atheist and Coroner)
Ulcerate - Stare Into Death and Be Still - Drawn Into the Next Void (Murky, Atmospheric, Dissonant, Technical Death and Black bands like them, DsO, Ævangelist, and later Gorguts make me stand at attention. Probably my favorite sub of a subgenre. This new album may be their best yet from an already stellar discography.)
Mercyful Fate - The Oath - Don't Break the Oath (Hail to the fucking King (Diamond) and those riffs.)

    Follow the playlist here:

I hope we all have a blast with this during these trying times. Give me/us suggestions!

  25. That'd be a cool way to expand my metal taste beyond the genres I'm already familiar with and rely too much on! Fantastic idea.
