That's fair and I see it, too. A status I'll write about a movie will get more reaction than anything I write in longer form. They'll always have relevance in niche circles, I suppose. Then you look at YouTube critics like Stuckmann or Shmoes (for better or worse) with millions of views and I believe the craft is still alive.

 

I'm no defender of this movie, but unless you've seen it, how can you make that claim?

 

I read far more reviews after my experience of the artwork so I can learn more about it. I would sorely miss that process if people stopped writing reviews, analysis, and commentary about these things.

 

I can only call it a gut feeling based on the trailers and the promotion because the bad reviews have not surprised me at all. I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

 

I don't think it will ever truly go away. People will always want to talk and analyze art. But as far as the masses go, most just want to know is something bad or good, which can be concisely described in a tweet/status or RT/Metacritic score. I can't tell you how many people (and this is no brag) ask me "Is (Movie Title) good?" And I say yes or no and that's good enough for them. I'll even ask "Don't you want to know why?" and they'll say "Not really."

 

I don't love the characters, the action, the comedy or James Spader as Ultron in Age of Ultron. That movie is trash.

 

Good point. Perhaps we should get rid of the title "reviews" and just start calling everything a "commentary," then hope that people catch on.

I also don't know what the point of that question is, Avengers and Age of Ultron are two different films. Hmmmmmmmmm

 

You don't like the sequence with Iron Man in Hulkbuster armour beating the crap out of Hulk? I didn't know it was possible to dislike that scene, lol. Maybe I'm just easily pleased

 

Standard action scene. Pacing and framing was pretty poor. It didn't really ever go anywhere either, I also think the fallout was very poorly handled.

The point is they are pretty much the same movie but people love one and hate the other. If you don't like either then you are the one human that it doesn't apply to. Thanks for taking time out to answer.

I've had plenty of in depth discussions on here and wonderful back and forth......but it's clear that by calling the Hulk fight scene a standard action scene with bad framing and pacing, it's better just to ignore it. Let alone the fact that you are posting in a CBM thread when you dislike the Avengers.

 

So because I don't like the Avengers I have no right to an opinion on any comic book movie? Yeah dude you must fucking love discussion.

 

I didn't like the Hulkbuster scene either and I enjoyed Age of Ultron more than say, BvS even though it isn't particularly great. It felt tacked on for the cool moment, fan service without function. I wish they would've used that runtime for some honest to god character work.

Edit: I must note that the time at the farm and the party were my favourite parts of the movies so make of that what you will.

 

Right, now I'm back home I can formulate my thoughts on this film a little more thoroughly. Technically, the editing is a mess, especially in the the opening and closing thirds, it's quite choppy and generally a tad disorientating at times. The direction and cinematography are ok, it's not exactly Ayer's best work. Not even close, but he gets enough out of the actors to make them work for the most part and he made Jai Courteney tolerable so fair play. The worst character, and actor in the film is Rik Flagg, but let's be honest did anyone expect much out of Jai Courteney's long lost twin, Kinnaman.

I think one of the stronger parts of the film was the use of colour, it's by no means a colourful film but colour is used well in the film, the opposite of it's sparse use in BvS. That said, there is nothing as standout as some of Snyder's shots in Bvs, but also nothing as grating as his style of scene. Well, bar one slow motion scene that was unbearable.

The motivations for the characters are a little murky and no one really feels as fleshed out as they should, that's understandable though. The last act though, it's pretty much a travesty in character development imo. It's pretty nonsensical and flies in the face of what they were earlier in the film. The interactions directly preceding the final battle were all kinds of bad. El Diablo saying they were his family made me shoot coke out of my nose it was so out of place. Also there was absolutely no punch in El Diablo's power, like it wasn't there at all. It felt like out of place cgi, it's should have been bigger and felt a lot stronger.

All in all, as a film it wasn't as bad as BvS, though there are many glaring issues. The opening was ok, there was a good hour that followed and then a trainwreck of an ending.

Most egregious, however is how tragically misogynistic it was. Like dang. That was horrible.

 

This coming from a guy who writes music reviews and should appreciate the medium of reviewing as a whole?

 

I don't think they're pretty much the same movie but if they were I think that would be a pretty good reason to not like the second even if you liked the first.

 

I was just wondering what there is to discuss if you don't even like the marvel or DC films. But like I said, my recent posts will prove I love to debate and hear the other side of the argument. I just don't see the point with someone who dislikes it all and seems impossible to please.

 

Disliking The Avengers doesn't mean he doesn't like any Marvel or DC movies.
