    I was accepted by the cool kids in gradeschool mainly because of my music taste and definitely not my athletic ability. At one party I kept playing "Can't Stop" by RHCP and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" on repeat. It killed and everyone loved it

    I have a really weird history with what CDs I owned growing up. I occasionally got CDs for Christmas or Easter and those included the All That soundtrack, the Space Jam soundtrack, The Best of Country Sings the Best of Disney, a collection of covers of songs from popular movies, BSB, NSYNC, Hanson, and Chumbawamba. I think the first one I bought (or maybe convinced my parents to buy me, not clear on that) was Smash Mouth's Fush Yu Mang. I loved the song "Walkin on the Sun", but we didn't notice the parental advisory logo until later that day. So I was a good kid who didn't swear so I didn't listen to it much. But my grandmother saw it in my room and said to my mom "did you know Chase has an X-rated tape?"

    @ChaseTx Yes haha. My mom got me Fush Yu Mang for my birthday one year. Probably in '98. Walkin' on the Sun was definitely a favorite back then.

    @Dirty Sanchez You're a monster!

    I was like: "you know you like some of these songs! It's only $8! What a steal!"

    I think it's been under a car seat for 3 years haha.

    Been teaching private music lessons for a few years now, and without fail every time I lose a student I beat myself up way too much about it. Just makes me feel like I failed. I spend the rest of the day going over what I need to do better in the future, why I'm not as good as I'd like to be already, am I even capable of doing this as a career, etc, etc.

    Doesn't even matter that I haven't lost a student before today in quite some time. Just makes me feel shitty the rest of the day.

    Edit: it isn't about losing the money at all either, in case that isn't clear. Just get down on myself way too easily sometimes and feel like a failure.

    Things that make me dismiss people:

    Libertarianism
    Usage of evolutionary psychology

    And when they overlap, the mixture creates someone truly monstrous.

    My earliest music experiences were listening to my older brother's tape he made that was literally just "Jesus Freak" by dc Talk and "Flood" by Jars of Clay, maybe also "Big House" by Audio Adrenaline, on repeat, playing on one of those old 2-XL tape robot toys.

    I think most things I like in music can still be traced back to those songs in one way or another.

    Haha damn... Hopefully over time I can bring the name back to respectability. It's a pretty common name. It's just the German version of Smith. I went to school in Dayton where the HOF 3B is from, so the locals used to always make comments. So in a way this feels right that someone from the AP community calls me out.

    What instrument(s) do you teach? Sometimes students and teachers just aren't a good fit. I'm sure you're great!
