  1. Always have liked the OCD as a booster but on its own find it a little treble-y. For Fulltone overdrives I’ve always preferred the Plimsoul, way more versatile imo

How do you like the Angry Driver? Worth it?

I've got a Timmy clone and SS/BS Mini that work great together. Need something more aggressive but then also able to be dialed back.

That was my concern...I don't think it meets my needs. Will look into Plimsoul, not familiar.

    Regular

I currently play in a few bands that range from a late 90's/early 2000's influenced screamo band to a powerviolence/grindcore band and I have a few overdrives on my board. For the screamo band, which I go for light to moderate gain, I use a Fulltone Full-Drive 3. It also has a built in boost which I keep on 100% of the time. For grindcore or anything heavier, I have a MXR Classic Overdrive. It's not on my board anymore but I also have a Lone Wolf Audio Plague Rat. I personally feel that the Plague Rat is better as a bass distortion pedal and that's mostly what I used it for until recently. The only reason I stopped using it is because I wanted to go pedal less for my bass rig after I got a head (Ampeg SVT 5 Pro) where I was happy with my tone from blending the clean and distortion channels.

It should also go without saying that your amp has a huge part of it too. Pedals that work beautifully on some amps sound awful on others so trying a few out is always a good thing. For example, I play through two Fender DeVilles (212 and 410) in one of my bands and that's what I use the Full-Drive 3 for. The Classic Overdrive only sounds okay (not great) through them but it sounds great with my Dual Rec and with my Orange Crush Pro 120. Also, the Plague Rat sounds good through my Dual Rec but it sounds like trash through the other ones.

I'm probably going to grab a Fender Full Moon soon as well because I love how it sounds.

i don’t really use traditional overdrive tbh. i use a souped up Rat clone, a few fuzzes, and then a transparent boost.

I like it. Its a blues driver and a marshall jcm800 drive sound that you can also route in series or parallel. The latter can yield some unique blended sounds. The little concentric knobs arent the most easy to twiddle.

theres alot of videos out there that show off the sounds I think Brett Kingman and Rabea put out some good ones to showcase.

the jhs side of the pedal is the ‘angry charlie’ which is really an mi crunch box clone. so you could look up videos of those 2 to get an idea of what that sounds like too.

  10. I have both the OCD and Angry Driver. Personally I love them both - I have a Blacktop Jaguar so the highend issue is a non-factor for me with the OCD but I can agree that it can be a little much when I use a Tele or Strat.

The Angry Driver is beyond awesome though. I’ve become a huge fan of JHS because of Josh’s channel on YouTube and also bought the Unicorn uni-vibe.

But back to the Angry Driver - this is a great pedal with a ton of range. Also because of the option to switch between the Blues Driver and Angry Charlie on the fly it’s great in a live setting when you need to kick it up a notch.

I highly recommend both, but if you were to only grab one I’d say go with the Angry Charlie all day.

Currently building a mini board to take back to Japan...this is what I’m working with at the moment! Kinda sad I can’t fit my Shallow Water on but I’m sure I’ll find a way eventually - it’s a work in progress

I finally got an isolated power supply for my mini board I posted above. Let the reverb-drenched weird sad times commence

I hate how materialistic I am. I have stupid expensive taste.

And my company for some reason chose to not prorate a month of work that had significantly less working days. So I am BROKE and sad and watching YouTube videos of guitar pedals I’m dying to buy but definitely shouldn’t.

    MOOD I’m looking at YOU.

Anyway with this in mind I’m proposing a thread idea...

What’re everybody’s dream pedals that they’d get if money were no object?

    Mine:

Chase Bliss MOOD. Need. It’s essentially a musical toy box. There is so much wacky, lofi ambient shit you can do with it. I’m desperate to get one. I’m saving up for it and once I get my Japanese stimulus cheque (they’re giving each citizen 100,000 yen) it’ll be going to this.

This bad boy. Annoyingly it was a limited edition and twats bought them to put them on sale at MENTAL 1000+ prices. I would’ve adored this but looks as though I’ll never be able to get it if one even popped up for sale in Japan somehow. Even the original by Cooper FX seems impossible to get. It’s frustrating to say the least. Wish it wasn’t limited. It’s everything I want in a pedal. Sigh.

Chase Bliss Spectre. Though this version is sexier looking, I’m after the blue knob version. Irritatingly it apparently didn’t sell well and got discontinued. I’d bloody LOVE this though. Flange is gorgeous. One of my favourite effects clean (not big on the jet whoosh crap). Alternatively...

    C105D53E-035E-4DDD-9902-1799762180E5.jpeg
Dreadbox Komo Rebi. Wicked flanger again. With static control, it’s mental appealing to me. It’s a very interesting pedal and significantly cheaper than Chase Bliss, but just as exciting. A lot of control and it sounds glorious. Might just be my alternative. Except it’s bloody massive.

  19. Those Chase Bliss pedals are so fucking sick. Been eyeballing the Blooper for a minute now, first piece of gear that’s given me the itch in a long time. Gonna watch some YouTube videos for the Mood now, haven’t looked into that one much yet!

Oooooh. Watch the Knobs video and also this one:

Like this is a Knobs video but somehow even MORE. I’m pining after it after seeing both those videos.

I have a Dark World and it’s my BABY like seriously. I do not deserve that pedal. And the things I do with it blow my freaking mind. I’m terrible at guitar and yet I turn that on and everything is...yes.

  21. I don't know any names but I'm the kind of goofy guitarist who want the most out there pedals/gear to make the most out there sounds. Listening to Japanese rock, post-hardcore and math rock as a teenager just influenced me too much. This is one of my favorite bands/guitarists for example

Sounds crappy I know, but I love his lead guitar tones here instead

My next buy is probably the Digitech Whammy but there's no way I'm throwing money at pedals without getting a new guitar first, so I'll have to wait a few more months or more...

    And yeah, Knobs rules.

Loads of versions of that pedal btw. Which you after? Always been interested but idk whether pitch effects are necessarily my thing, other than half-stepping loops down to be all lofi. Seen some really interesting applications of the whammy though. The huge form factor was always what truly put me off - but the digitech Freqout piques my interest!

  23. That's the thing, I can't decide yet lol. I've been wanting that pedal or a variant since I first heard Nick Depirro from Night Verses use it (or Will Swan? I never cheked out his gear). I think he's actually using both this one and the Ricochet, which also interests me as I'm a fan of pitch effects in general. Too many choices.

Haha option paralysis...it hurts. So if you’re a pitch enthusiast, what’s your take on shimmer? I’ve always disliked how artificial it sounds with the upper octaves. Lower I’m into. But upper gets all tweety and bird-like, so I have a hard time with that.

There was a stage where every pedal seemed to be a bloody shimmer pedal and it hurt my soul haha.

  25. I think what keeps me from buying pedals who exist in many versions, is being stuck with one model knowing a better one could come next. Or on the opposite side, having too many setup options, yet just using it for one purpose.
