One slightly disappointing thing, I was excited because it had 15 tracks but 5 of them are like interludes or tracks leading into other songs. I knew there’d be at least 2 like that but still

also someone said there was a song that’s pure pop punk - not sure which song they were referring to?

    I'd imagine it's probably satellites

    Now, don't get me wrong
I love what they've done with the record
I just wish they had make it heavier

  4. I'm in the middle of my first listen and so far this has to be both the poppiest and weirdest stuff they ever put out. I'm so confused and intrigued.

And now I'm hearing a reprise of that Take To The Skies motif!!!

Somebody described it as the disney theme for the apocalypse and I don't think there's any better description

  8. Chris is in charge of translating the thing live. I figure he's going to continue taking a backseat backing vocals wise because otherwise, I don't know how they can even play some of these songs?

  9. Yes! Crossing The Rubicon and especially Satellites but I'm guessing both bands are fans of Bon Iver?

  10. So I've already got so many thoughts. This has to be the weirdest thing I've heard this year.

Now that I'm thinking about it, The Spark felt like the start of a new phase in their career, which would make this one the latter's Common Dreads. And this kind of fits? Both albums expand on their direct predecessor's sound to the extreme, which make for all over the place listens. In comparison, A Flash Flood Of Colour and The Mindsweep are much more cohesive soundwise.

Even the way this flows, with the interludes, the more overt pop influences, and the shorter songs, reminds me of that album.

I haven't been this bewildered by an Enter Shikari album. I need a break Fiona Apple's album will probably not help lol

Pretty sure this is the most apt description of this album I've heard so far. Between all the TTTS references, the electronic elements they used, the interludes, and Waltzing off the Face of the Earth part 1 sounding like The Jester's miserable clown brother, I'm getting serious Common Dreads pop edition vibes from this album

  12. Modern Living sounds SO FAMILIAR. Where does that hook come from? I did hear Bittersweet Symphony, but this isn't the song I have in mind and it's driving my crazy.

Then I thought of this one, but this ain't it either

The one thing I don't like, and it's not Shikari specific, is when sentences are just constantly repeated. Too much repetition brings me out of stuff. It feels cheap. Some songs had a bit of that, but overall this is a great record.

1 and 1/2 listens so far and I love it.

Adore the reference to the Take to the Skies track on Crossing The Rubicon - I completely missed it first time round. Listen closely when Rou says 'Labyrinth'
Modern Living makes me think of an updated version of Common People by Pulp.

Three songs in and I already like it way more than The Spark.

  16. I miss the spy movie soundtrack/post-punk vibes from The Spark already. But I love that they went in a different direction.

Holy shit, thanks for pointing this out as I just got it.

Only just noticed Reprise 3 is a continuation from Reprise 1 & 2 from TTTS lol

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

that might have been me referring to "Crossing the Rubicon" a bit ago?

this is an issue I had with The Spark too, I at least like the music/melodies a lot more here so it doesn't feel quite as bad.

I really like most of this album, I think my main issue is that the end is a bit weak. The King is maybe my least favourite song on the album and although I really, really like the sound of Waltzing II, it feels a bit underwhelming as a closing track.

Even though I might like the Spark a bit more in terms of which album I’d reach for when I want to listen to ES, it’s hard to deny that the band really went for it in a way they haven’t before. The songwriting is really expansive and daring. I really hope this album gives them recognition as fantastic songwriters that they haven’t gotten before. I can’t think of another band that integrates the electronic elements as creatively as ES

Woke up this morning to listen to these songs

yeah this is the best Enter Shikari album. Might not be my favorite when it all shakes out, but it’s hard to deny how good it is
