the line between appropriation and respectfully participating in or becoming part of a culture surrounding an art form or technique that is not, i guess you'd say, your own original culture, is really not that fine. it's about taking something and removing it from its context and originators for your own gain versus studying it, actually understanding it, honoring and respecting its originators etc.

It’ll be interesting to see whether triple j (our national youth radio broadcaster) add them to regular rotation again

 

A while back I posted about accusations of Mat Cothran being an asshole/shitty person/etc. from various people associated with him and it's always refreshing to see people take accountability for their actions (even if it only happens after they are called out) and try to better themselves. I wish people would take action without being called out, but sometimes it can be tough in certain cases.

 

Another reason Mac Miller's passing was so fucking sad, he fits that latter description to a T. Was never anything but respectful of the genre and his place in it

 

Think they've been mentioned in this thread before but Nothing But Thieves are still messing with underage kids. Scum. Trigger warnings apply for sexual assault.

 

Band responded to the above and it's as spineless as you would expect. Disgusting predatory pieces of shit. Except, apparently, their guitarist Joe Langridge-Brown, not that it matters as he is obviously complicit in this behaviour.

 

I noticed they released a couple of singles last year which didn't get much traction on Triple J. Waiting for Wil to go full Sticky Fingers and complain about an agenda against the band as if it wasn't of his own making.

 

The replies are godawful. Does this band have a "special aura" over its head or something? I can't believe this many people are disputing her claims.

Damn this is making me so pissed off, reminding me of my own experience with a fucking douchebag of a musician I mentioned in a post a few months back. I have no faith in people, and to see how badly some are treating her is another proof of that. I was a fan of this band a few years back, so this hurts too.

No shade, but a band way more popular than like... most of what this community listens to. C*mil* Cab*llo was part of it at some point.

I didn’t know who she was until a week or so ago!

Over the years, I’ve mastered the art of avoiding a lot of manufactured pop. Some occasionally get through, but Fifth Harmony are a new one to me!

 

I did know who BTS were before they got big in the west thanks to a friends daughter being a fan, though!
