Oh word? Not a game I would normally pay attention to, but everyone here seems to rate it so maybe I should take the plunge.

Can someone answer a dumb question for me?

I just bought a Switch and I want to be able to play games online with my fiance at the same time on our TV. Is it a requirement that I purchase a family plan and set her up with a Nintendo account? Or can we both play online together under my individual account. I can't imagine a time where she will be playing the Switch online without me. I think I need the family plan, but I wanted to double check before going ahead with it.

 

Each account will need Nintendo Online so you'll need the family plan

 

What games exactly?

 

You can play like mario kart and smash online together with one online account, I think?

We're starting with Mario Party. Then probably going to Mario Kart & Outcooked 2 (my friend recommended it). She doesn't like the games I play on my ps4, so I bought the Switch so we can game together while we're staying-at-home.

 

I could be wrong, I usually am, but I don't think you need multiple online accounts

 

Now I'm not sure what to believe.

 

If you have 1 Switch and only 1 account, get an individual plan.
If you have 1 Switch and 2 accounts, use only 1 account for multiplayer and get an individual plan.

For the multiplayer one it depends. Mario Kart 8, Smash Brothers can play online with 2 players and 1 Switch. Mario Party sucks online anyway, it's only minigames.

I'd say only get 2 accounts and a family plan if you have more than 1 Switch in the household.

EDIT: You can still use the 2nd account if you want your wife to have her own play history, and I think some single player games only allow 1 save file per account. But you don't need to subscribe that one to a membership. That 2nd account will also have access to games you buy digitally with the first account on the same Switch.

There are a lot of games on sale rn too, I'm sure there are a bunch of couch multiplayer games in there you can check out. If you want recs and have some specific genres you already like just let us know

it's hard to recommend things without more information because there are so many good stuff out there

 

Have you tried Merceneries Saga? It looks pretty cookie cutter but it's definitely got a Tactics vibe. Also, there's Disgaea if you want Tactics with ridiculously over the top gameplay lol

i haven’t. always kept an eye on it but i’ve always been worried about it being too shallow and generic. have you played it? there is also another one called Mercenary Wings

haha yeah i play Disgaea, i like it but the difference in roles in FF Tactics is what i was looking for. as much as I enjoy that game, it’s more grindy and loose

 

got so much good stuff for <$15. Steamworld Dig, Bastion, Transistor, Downwell, Death Squared, Mutant Mudds Collection. beat the first Mutant Mudds on Wii U and i loved it. rest is totally new to me.

also got Conduct Together for 1 cent, reddit says it's actually a pretty good couch co op in the vein of Overcooked

 

Only thing I see on sale that catches my eye is hyper light drifter, what's everyone think of it?

 

Well, I went for Mario/Rabbids and ended up playing all evening. It's great, well worth the few quid I spent on it.
