As long as the republicans keep treating this as a game where the objective is to win and the dems keep treating this as a game where the objective accomplish something, the dems will continue to outplayed.

Pelosi could've pushed for giving everyone money from the start. But then republicans would've shot it down and while the two sides played politics the situation in people's lives would've continued to deteriorate.

But by not pushing for more, she opened the flank from the left.

Really the right move was probably just to pass multiple bills. Be like "hey here is what we want. And for the purposes of expediency here is what we think you'll actually pass". But instead she just tried negotiating with the republicans in good faith forgetting everything we should've learned over the last several decades.

The good news is that, in the coming days, we should settle in on a standoff between Repubs asking for less than Dems are asking for.

but again the Dems are so so so bad at messaging and politics that they’ll still find ways to fuck up that stronger position

Same. I gave the Catholic Church a chance but it felt too robotic for my taste and while the people attending mass were nice, I couldn't get in line with some of their "demands". For the last few years I've been riding a wave that isn't part of a denomination and just having small groups with others that feel the same. I believe it played a big part in me still maintaining my beliefs or at least finding life in them.

  13. truly the welfare republican vision terrifies me. short term is one thing - I wouldn't be shocked if dems in general got their shit at least halfway together and ended passing something decent as pandemic relief through the house - but when people talk about the next, competent, non moronic version of trump that's what it'll be and the current vision of the dem party stands absolutely no chance against it

I’m honestly surprised democrats have it together enough to win any sort of election at all. The whole fucking party sucks at being politicians.

Me and my wife half joked about going to Acadia or Shenandoah for a while lol. Problem is we’d have to break social distancing rules to buy food while we were there so

I sometimes think of the Catholic church as like the democratic party lol. In the dem party you have all these different factions, some of them good (ex. super progressives like AOC, very progressive like Warren or Jeff Merkley), and some of them bad (ex. conservatives like Manchin, Sinema). The catholic church has some leaders in there who obviously espouse and demand some awful things, but I have also found there are catholic leaders who aren't that way at all. I'm catholic, and the church that I go to has a really awesome pastor that makes a lot of sense of things and in ways I can relate to

We're sending all non-essential employees home and whoever can work from home is instructed to do so. I have the immense honor of having the city's main phone line forwarded to my cellphone for the foreseeable future and it's a mess haha
