Because the Dems are so fucking bad at politics and messaging and it’s the most frustrating thing ever

  3. This seems like the minimum of what will be needed (the bbb plan).

Very confused right now about why the Senate GOP is blocking something that the White House ostensibly wants, typically they just fall in line with whatever Trump is saying. Mnuchin speaks for Trump, clearly, so what's the problem here.

The most likely reason is, much like everything else he does, there’s like a 0% chance they actually talked to the senators about this first so like all those other stories we read about people being blindsided by a proclamation Trump makes, they and their staffers are probably scrambling trying to figure out what these “4-5” plans are that he keeps mentioning lol

a permanent bill that provides people in need up to 500 a month is gonna do a whole lot more good for people than a one time 1000 payment to everyone

  9. Not an accountant, so: What the fuck is a payroll tax cut going to even do for me, the self-employed? Like, anything?

Depends on the details. “Up to” is pretty pathetic when 500 per month wouldn’t even cover rent anywhere and Kamala is notorious for having some ridiculous standards to obtain relief
Also those aren’t our only options and it’s troubling that is the Democrat response

Trump just sounded surprised that people liked his tone yesterday.

And now he’s lying saying he thought it was a pandemic long before it was a pandemic and took it seriously early hah

  13. Remember when Matt Bruenig had to delete all his tweets after his shitty Sandy Hook tweet? Can we get someone else to do the calculations instead?

because the white house doesn't actually want it? The play by the republicans as a whole seems to just be "say some of the right things, stymie any efforts to actually get something passed, and then the blame on the dems and hope no one notices you're the reason nothing got done"

  16. All the republicans pretending it was no big deal last week will soon be telling us all they were worried from the start too. The gaslighting cycle is obnoxious.

Really don't think the GOP is playing 48-dimensional chess here when the treasury secretary is literally saying "This needs to happen" and then their minions in congress hold it up. Pretty clear who is at fault in that scenario, not really a good way to hide supposed true motives at all.

  18. More on the BBB bill.

Its not 1/4th of what they are proposing because Kamala's bill isn't a one time thing...

My friend in Texas and his girlfriend think they have it. BNoth have had fevers the last few days. Turns out his girlfriend's boss apparently got it at Mar-a-lago and came into work. She's still not able to get tested for it for some reason, but is getting tested for everything else that it could be. If all those come back negative, it's obvious what it is but it won't count towards the case numbers of course. What a great country we live in.

  23. Woke up today with a sore throat. Nose has been runny, too. Had a dry cough the past few nights. Under any normal circumstances I would blame this on allergies. This week? Yeah, I'm scared I have it.

    No fever though!
