Fuck.

This young guy who went through my old treatment center a few years ago called me last week. He was homeless and had found a scholarship to a treatment center but needed 1400 dollars to cover the last few costs. Ill be honest, it sounded sketchy to me as I don't see why a place would scholarship someone 30k worth of treatment and then get hung up on the last little bit. He called to ask if I knew any non-profits that donate to people trying to get help? Which, no doesn't exist it's not really possible to have something like that. His family was so done with him they wouldnt give him another dime, he had burned those bridges so badly.

He started a gofundme to try and get the money and kept tagging me in it, I had just quit my job so was being frugal, I didn't have any type of funds to get him there anyway. I believe he raised about 275 dollars of the 1400. This morning I went to see how he was doing and saw he died 2 days after I spoke to him. Crazy.

Now, this guy had every opportunity in the world to get sober, he went to treatment a ton of times and blew it every time. He had kids and even that wasn't enough to motivate him to get right. The sad reality is some people legitimately dont have it in themselves to get and stay sober, he was a case of that. I still feel terrible.

I keep thinking about how this will haunt his family forever, they turned down giving him 1000 dollars to get help one more time and now he's gone forever. How sad.

Yeah i've been through this enough where I know i'm not powerful enough to save anyones life. To be completely honest I don't even know if he was telling the truth, drug addiction is so brutal he could of been just trying to get money. The information he was telling me didn't really make sense but who knows. I just always feel for the families, it will define them for the rest of their lives.
