yeah, i mean, i love the bands you are describing but the aforementioned bands are definitely more "real" metal than dillinger haha

Hmm. Maybe a better way of saying it is that I’m not a fan of where metal came from and the sound that hooked me is what metal is in my head, if that makes sense.

    Some of y'alls takes. OOOOOOF.

If we were talking about post God Hates Us All stuff, I wouldn't disagree. But to include the first five albums in this? C'mon, bruh. Even with what Kerry King has become nowadays, him and Hanneman are probably the best guitar duo in the big 4, and it's not even close.

So you're saying you like more chaotic metalcore? There's absolutely nothing wrong with that, but if we're taking a genre purity test to it, that's more "false metal" than anything if we're applying the Metal Archives definition to it.

    Two thoughts for the record:
    1) Considering the diversity of sounds within metal, metal as a catch all tag for a sound does feel a bit weird at times. I think some of your original comment was coming from that sentiment, and I don't disagree with it.
    2) A lot of false metal is better than real metal. I like a lot of false grindcore more than the real stuff. Hence the avatar.

God Hates Us All is Slayer’s take on Hatebreed and it kicks ass. Real smoothbrain riffs.

“And, seriously guys, the lyrics. You used to draw from an explicitly anti-imperialist tradition but now it’s all, like, vague ‘never give up’ type bullshit. I know Savior is your most popular song because of that, but damn. Shit sucks, my guys.”

I was trying to describe myself to someone

This has been pretty much my view of Rise Against (having been a big fan years ago) since that exact point. To me now, they're just like the Foo Fighters, in that they just pump out basically the same album every few years and will do so until either they or the audience perishes.

The Sufferer & the Witness is the only album I ever got into... which I haven't listened to in years, so no idea if I'd still like it, but I used to think it was a pretty cool rock album.

  16. Rise Against was my favorite band in like 2010 or whenever Appeal to Reason came out and even 14 year old me didn't like the followup

The Chariot was a decent band who made a living acting as wild as possible on stage. Which honestly will get you pretty far in underground music.

The Chariot was always best experienced live but there’s a couple albums, primarily One Wing, that I can listen to and still get buck wild.
