1996 was a pivotal year for me in which I began to really start watching real movies and not just kid stuff. There will be too many anniversaries this year.

 

Why did no one ever tell me how good Penny Dreadful was? Four episodes in and I love it. So fascinating.

 

Haven't watched it and haven't associated Showtime with good shows in a while. Granted I haven't seen Homeland either but the series I have watched from Showtime are usually mediocre.

 

Actually I did want to start The Affair..

So hyped for MTV Classic, mostly because they said on weekends they'll air marathons of old seasons of Real World and Road Rules, which were like my crack when I was a kid back in the 90's.

 

I'm about to watch the season one finale. Every episode has been so good, especially 5 and 7.

edit: Watched the finale. What an incredible first season. Two Frankenstein scenes even had me tearing up. And Eva Green is just absolutely killing it.

 

Currently watching Twister...best disaster film ever. Fight me.

 

Paired with the original Independence Day, yes. And maybe Armageddon. Damn I miss 90's disaster films.

 

Just watched Season 2 of Powers (PSN). They completely retooled the tone of the show. Season 1 wasn't by any means a great show, but it was unique and entertaining enough to enjoy. I liked the much darker take on superheroes. Season 2 though? They got rid of their best character, Johnny Royalle, made it MUCH goofier and lighter, and the budget must have been cut at LEAST in half. Can't believe how much worse it is. What a shame. Pretty much feels like Heroes now.

Listening to the Filmcomment Podcast. Pretty offputting that the word "retard"/"retarded" is used more than once, tbh. Some decent points, a lot of guffawing at naming movies that the critics don't like, which is pretty lame. There's potential for wonderful discourse in here because everyone is knowledgable, but a lot of it is snark for no real other reason.

 

Why did you not tell me that they had a podcast? Koresky is arguably the best critic around right now.
