Rolling Stone is indifferent to everything, but game this four stars...

 

People have the right to dislike it, obviously. But to call it trash or "car crash shit" is a little much, you have to admit. And I read a comment somewhere that said they hate the album because "it has too many handclaps and some of the songs aren't even 2 minutes long." Like come on... haha.

 

I don’t understand why you think “need” has anything to do with it. They’re a band, not a legislative body.

It sounds like they just made a record that’s a weird collision of all the music they were vibing to, hired a guy they liked to produce it, went into the studio for a couple days, and had a ton of fun. And frankly that sounds like an awesome experience for them, not sure why you wouldn’t want to do that.

 

I just love how divisive it is and I have a strong hunch the band knew it would be this divisive -- and that probably fueled a lot of the actual method behind the songs, too. #edgy

 

I'm sure it was a fun time, absolutely. That doesn't have anything to do with how the music turned out, but I'm glad everyone seems to agree they had fun making it! Still just over here wondering why this is the direction they felt like they needed to take the band in next. Don't mind me!

 

Also, Motown influences are all the fuck over this thing. That definitely came through very audibly and is why I like a lot of it so much.

Because there was OBVIOUSLY a third party in the studio with a gun to their heads telling them exactly what music to make

 

Crazy how much the title track grew on me since first hearing it

 

Green Day did "Ramones meets Phil Spector" better than The Ramones did when they actually worked with Phil Spector.

 

Speaking of Phil Spector... haha

 

Because I imagine that when an artist sits down to create new art, they have some kind of spark or inspiration or whatever you want to call it that sets them off down a path that they then feel like they “need” to follow, resulting in whatever art it results in. They clearly felt like this was the direction the band should take next, or they wouldn’t have made the record they did, and I just personally don’t understand why they felt this was the right way to go.

tbh it’s an extremely weird thing to be fixated on, one innocuous word in one person’s innocuous opinion, but that’s your prerogative if that’s what you choose to take away from the opinions I’m expressing in this forum

 

I think half of this is unlistenable, just-above-Trilogy-level garbage that would have sounded dated in 2009. The whole three-song intro is bad, no desire to hear those songs again. Dads are probably stoked about “Stab You In The Heart,” which is solid imitation of a bluesy rock song, but little else. “I Was A Teenage Teenager” is their worst song since Dos? Maybe there’s something worse on Tre, I can’t remember. Either way, about half of this record makes me sad. I like “Meet Me On The Roof.” Can’t believe anyone’s praising the song with the lyric “Like a high school loser that’ll never ever ever fuck the prom queen.” All in all this album sucks. Cool they had fun making it, that much is apparent, but when I know they’re capable of so much more, I can’t help but wish this was a bit more developed.

 

Also, we need to really stop using the word "unlistenable." Everyone who uses that word LITERALLY LISTENED to the song, making it automatically listenable

 

I think Billie Joe has fuck-you-money at this point and the band is entirely unconcerned with what they “need” to do, this feels like they took a did a lot of coke one weekend and banged out a 30-minute album for fun

I have nothing bad to say about Revolution Radio but for better and for worse at times, this record is a lot more interesting to me personally. I often forget that RR exists

Can't figure out if the IDP in Iowa or Green Day were worse this week. This is a disaster.

 

Eh, Green Day didn't help give Pete a bump in the NH polls so I'd say Iowa is still the bigger disaster lol

 

But this is definitely the kinda music that would be played at Pete rally and posted to twitter, so, 6 of one...

 

White people making corny radio music/rock need to stop putting the Motown name in their mouths, it drives me nuts
