Why go with a candidate that'll piss half the party off instead of working together to find one a large majority can at least be okay with?

  2. I ... uh ... if you think this is going to happen ... that people will "put happiness aside" and the party will "come together" for some person that did not even enter the race ... you should wrap yourself in bubble wrap right now. This is not how it's going to go down. Tammy Baldwin isn't a compromise, it'd be a farce. It would probably fracture the party to the point where they'd lose the election in the biggest landslide since Reagan. Telling all the primary voters their vote doesn't matter and then asking them to come out in the general election? Wooowee, it would be a slaughter.

  3. Warren seems to be the only compromise between the two sides right now

  4. I mean, I am as "vote for the candidate and shut up in the general" as anyone and even I wouldn't be "ok with" this. I'd be fucking pissed.

awful take: a contested convention gets us hillary clinton as the nominee

  9. For a daily dose of pessimism: There's never been an incumbent president that loses re-election with economy numbers like this.

  10. Music plays ... Al Gore walks out all bearded up.

The simulation is only here to torture me.

Warren could also work. But seems to be getting a lot of hate from both the Berners on the left and from the centerists so I'm not sure how well she'd go down...

  12. What I'd do to try and avoid the cluster fuck if I'm Bernie. Win NH. (please god damnit win NH convincingly) Win Nevada. Place well in SC. (Hopefully show a new turnout model in at least two out of those three.) And then promise Warren whatever she wants to drop out before Super Tuesday. Literally give her anything she wants.

So to clarify, say Biden leads with like 40% of the delegates, Sanders is at like 35%, Warren, Pete and Bloomberg each have a chunk...

You'd be happier with Biden walking out with the nomination than someone like Baldwin?

I don’t think Warren is dropping out though, not if she keeps placing second or third everywhere. I truly don’t know what Bernie could offer her to make her drop out.

  17. has that ever happened even outside our lifetime? i feel like that would only happen on the west wing. its the same kind of fantasy as a "bipartisan unity ticket"

  18. If the goal is to win the general election and beat Trump, yes. It not being a candidate from this field would end the general election the moment it happened. It would be over.

There is approximately 0 chance the nominee isn’t one of the current candidates no matter what happens at the convention

campaign with her when she runs again, endorse her, provide his campaign machine, staff, etc. i would imagine if bernie can enact half of the things he wants to do, he'll be one of the most popular presidents ever and that'll go along way to help warren get elected when she runs. on top of that prioritizing her family leave and other big campaign promises in his first term.

  25. Brokered convention - Wikipedia
The most infamous example of this was at the 1924 Democratic National Convention, where the divisions between Wets and Drys on ending Prohibition and various other issues led to 102 ballots of deadlock between frontrunners Alfred E. Smith and William G. McAdoo over 16 days, before dark horse John W. Davis was chosen as a compromise candidate on the 103rd ballot.

    THE 103RD BALLOT.

    Imagine this in Twitter world.

And yeah, it was totally a west wing plot:
The last two episodes of season six of the US series The West Wing centers on the Democratic Party's nomination process while three candidates vie for the nomination: Vice President Bob Russell, former Vice President John Hoynes, and Representative Matt Santos. A fourth, Governor Eric Baker, attempts to get nominated from the floor after the first ballot fails to produce a nominee.
