I don't know if we have an "official" stance, but I can tell you my personal stance at this point. According to the most recent review of vaccination policies across the globe, mandatory vaccination that doesn't allow for medical exemptions is practically unheard of. In most countries, people trust their regulatory agencies and have very high rates of vaccination through voluntary programs. In the US, however, regulatory agencies are routinely packed with corporate lobbyists and CEOs. So the foxes are guarding the chicken coop as usual in the US. So who wouldn't be skeptical? I think dropping vaccinations rates that can and must be fixed in order to get at the vaccination issue: the widespread distrust of the medical-indsutrial complex.

Vaccines in general have made a huge contribution to public health. Reducing or eliminating devastating diseases like small pox and polio. In Canada, where I happen to have some numbers, hundreds of annual death from measles and whooping cough were eliminated after vaccines were introduced. Still, vaccines should be treated like any medical procedure--each one needs to be tested and regulated by parties that do not have a financial interest in them. In an age when industry lobbyists and CEOs are routinely appointed to key regulatory positions through the notorious revolving door, its no wonder many Americans don't trust the FDA to be an unbiased source of sound advice. A Monsanto lobbyists and CEO like Michael Taylor, former high-ranking DEA official, should not decide what food is safe for you to eat. Same goes for vaccines and pharmaceuticals. We need to take the corporate influence out of government so people will trust our health authorities, and the rest of the government for that matter. End the revolving door. Appoint qualified professionals without a financial interest in the product being regulated. Create public funding of elections to stop the buying of elections by corporations and the super-rich.

For homeopathy, just because something is untested doesn't mean it's safe. By the same token, being "tested" and "reviewed" by agencies tied to big pharma and the chemical industry is also problematic. There's a lot of snake-oil in this system. We need research and licensing boards that are protected from conflicts of interest. They should not be limited by arbitrary definitions of what is "natural" or not.

A few blocks from the DNC, tales from the city with the highest poverty rate among major U.S. cities

There are two cities in Philadelphia this week.

The one that has moved in for a few days - the media, the delegates, the protesters of all the stripes - and the one we live in every day. The one of contradiction and divide. The one with a downtown bursting with new growth and neighborhoods plagued by the highest poverty rate of any big city in the nation.

The one where working men like Henry and Jones sit on a bench in a Center City that is becoming shinier by the day and talk about the neighborhoods where they live. Neighborhoods just a few miles away that might as well be a universe away. Neighborhoods plagued by poverty and hunger - the types of issues that have not garnered nearly enough attention during this bizarre and frightening election.

God help us all if Donald Trump wins. But how is it that two nights into a Democratic national convention held in a city where one out of four people lives in poverty, where one of five children goes without enough food, where 700 people sleep on the streets each night, the words hunger or homelessness have barely been mentioned from the lectern, if at all?

Jeremy Corbyn’s support unites around clear basic principles: the need to break decisively with neoliberalism, in favour of a new egalitarian economic model, and to defend migrants, minority-ethnic people and those on social security from the rising tide of bigotry and the effects of spending cuts.

Conspiracy theories about mass Trotskyist entryism, while (unintentionally) entertaining, are of little help in explaining the huge and enduring support for Corbyn among Labour’s ballooning membership. The real reasons are simple enough – Corbyn represents a head-on challenge to a status quo that a broad swath of left-progressive opinion now considers intolerable. No analytical genius is required to identify his limitations as a leader. The problem is the lack of any credible candidate to carry forward that challenge in his place.

That alternative is unlikely to be Owen Smith, a former lobbyist for the pharmaceutical industry who once claimed that Nye Bevan would have supported Blair’s marketisation of the NHS, and likened Labour’s involvement in the invasion of Iraq to socialist volunteers in the 1930s going to fight in the Spanish civil war.

More recently, Smith supported Osborne’s devastating benefit cap because of its popularity with voters, and abstained on a welfare reform bill that was expected to negatively effect 330,000 of the country’s poorest children. Is this the man to drive through root-and-branch reform of British capitalism in the teeth of strong opposition from elite vested interests, and to challenge majority views on issues including welfare and immigration? Somehow, it seems unlikely.

Not sure if I 100% agree with the line on there being no one to take up his mantle (I guess no one who would realistically do it at the moment) but this comes pretty close to how I feel personally.

But the thing is, Bill, let the states make the deal.

So no, he doesn't support $10 minimum wage. It's like his stance on the North Carolina anti-LGBT bill all over again. "Leave it to the states" so that he doesn't have to take a real stance on the issue.

She supports a ban on GMOs "until they are proven safe". They already have been proven safe. If she re worded that to maybe saying the pesticides used on GMOs it is understandable. But from what I understand it sounds very much like she believes GMOs are evil. People have also said she supports homeopathy but I'm pretty sure that one might not be true.
